Guest guest
Does anyone use or heard of dandelion oil? I was asked to make a cream with it in the cream, and I have no clue who even carries such an oil. Thanks! Cindy

Guest guest
You could probably make an infusion with dried leaves or roots in one of the oils you use in the cream.... I'm not sure what properties it would give the cream though.... Shelley cynthia gooding wrote: > Does anyone use or heard of dandelion oil? Guest guest
It's supposed to make a good " breast massage " cream. That's what the guy told me. His girlfriend wants it. I've NEVER heard of it before - dandelion oil, that is. lol. I've got plenty of dandelions out in the yard, after all this rain this weekend, here in NJ. But I don't have time to infuse - he wants it ASAP, so I tried googling to no avail. Cindy - You could probably make an infusion with dried leaves or roots in one of the oils you use in the cream.... [Dave:] If you only need a small amount, you can distill some yourself pretty easily. If you have a large stainless steel stew pot with a lid that will fit on the pot upside-down, you can easily make a simple still. Remove the center stem from a vegetable steamer, the kind that opens up like a flower, and set it on the bottom of the pot. Beneath it, place your herbs and cover them with distilled or RO-filtered water. Set a large Pyrex bowl on the veggie steamer. Cover the pot and bring the water to a simmer, just under a boil. Then turn the lid over so that it’s like a shallow bowl, and set a bag of ice on it. Make sure the ice is in a bag that won’t leak as it melts. A lot depends on how the knob or handle is shaped, but if it’s right, then the hydrosol and volatile oil that collect on the underside of the lid – which becomes a condenser here – will drip down into the bowl. When you’re finished, you will be able to lift the volatile oil that floats on the water with an eyedropper. The liquid that remains is the hydrosol. You can do this with any aromatic herb. _____ -- Version: 7.1.385 / Virus Database: 268.4.6/323 - Release 4/24/2006 -- Version: 7.1.385 / Virus Database: 268.4.6/323 - Release 4/24/2006
Guest guest
Thanks Dave! I'm still searching for it already made, as I don't have much time, but I will definitely save these instructions and try this myself! Guest guest
Hi, You can make an infused oil overnight - just put the plant mass into a crockpot, cover it with an oil, either say olive or sweet almond, and put the crockpot onto low and run it overnight, Regards, Mary Well, Naturally - cynthia gooding Monday, April 24, 2006 12:49 PM Re: Dandelion Oil? Guest guest
Okay, sorry if I sound ignorant, but what is this " breast massage " cream supposed to do? Is it supposed to make them bigger, or is it a foreplay kinda thing? Karen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Karen M. Chan | kmchan | Whatever Happens... Guest guest
Dandelion Oil Use flowers for this one, since the flowers contain a pain reliever. Collect a jar full of healthy, fresh flower heads and cover with almond or grapeseed oil. Float a couple ounces of 100 proof vodka on top to prevent mold from forming. Cover the jar with a piece of cheesecloth and put it in a warm, sunny place. In about 4 weeks, the dandelion essence will have been absorbed into the oil, making a sunny remedy for joint and muscle swelling and pain, and for any kind of weepy rash or other skin problem. Guest guest
Karen, It might be a painful breast thing, or maybe they've heard that it helps with stretch marks or something like that.. I'll have to check my stash of books to see if there's anything like that in any of the Chinese medicine books I have. Jennifer On Behalf Of Karen M. Zo Hi Zo, Others interested, For best results and strength/efficacy, make several batches with the same oil, replacing spent flower heads (when they turn brown and limp) with freshly picked ones. This is called infusing to 'saturation', the method recommended by knowledgeable herbalists. You will want the freshly picked blossoms to wilt for 24 hours prior to adding to your oil to evaporate off excess water from the plant (lay them out in single layers on paper or cloth in warm dark place). You can do the Bain Marie method (double boiler) to take advantage of time constraints for multiple batches and to keep up with spring blossoming time. In Bain Marie, you would not add the Vodka. After final infusion, remove blossoms, let stand in glass jar with cheesecloth over the opening in a warm, but shady place. Excess water will settle to the bottom and some moisture will evaporate off. You can also use a separatory funnel. Remove excess water by pipetting off from the bottom of the jar or pouring slowly until oil can be removed without the water, or decanting and discarding water from the bottom of the sep funnel and then removing oil. You should let the oil stand in a warm, dark place again and repeat separation if you see moisture forming in the head space, or when seeing water on the bottom. Refrigerate in tightly lidded glass jars after you are sure all excess moisture has been removed. The key to keeping any fresh plant infused oil from becoming moldy is to insure that all water has been removed from the final oil. Hope this helps. P. S. David, since dandelion is an herb and is not considered an aromatic plant, there is no essential oil to be distilled. It can be made into an infused oil, flower essence or tincture, or tisane/decoction, however. Be Well, Marcia Elston http://www.wingedseed.com " Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot.
