Guest guest
Thursday April 26, 2006 Dear Natural Perfumer, Supplier, or Enthusiast of Natural Perfumes: It was in early November, 2005 when I got the phone call. I was without power due to Hurricane Wilma, but my landline worked. Mandy Aftel, the Founder of the Artisan Natural Perfumers Guild opened the conversation by telling me how she appreciated the work I was doing with the I hosted for Natural Perfumers, and the good will I was building up on the Web by taking part in forums for mainstream perfumery, whereI chatted about natural perfumes. Mandy, whom I have come to recognize as a focused, professional, sensitive person, honored me by asking me if I wanted to reopen the Artisan Natural Perfumers Guild she had closed two years before. Due to demands from her perfume, writing and educational endeavors, she regretfully closed it. Mandy commented how I had the personality to oversee a group, a bonus in dealing with promoting a profession and managing day-to-day operations. I told Mandy I had to think about it for a week, as it was a big project, and I was more concerned with ice, water and gasoline at the time. I was quite honored that the author of Essence and Alchemy, the book that got many of us hooked on natural perfumes, and creating them, asked me this. After a week of careful deliberation, I said yes. The biggest change since Mandy's tenure at the Guild is how natural perfumery has grown, much due in part to the public image she has promoted for the art, and the word of mouth about the . The is approaching 900 members, and that includes professional perfumers, novices, suppliers, and enthusiasts who may never blend, but love natural perfumes. The Guild will be open to all and it will formally launch in May, 2006. We're open " softly " now as we work through the website technical stuff, and invite all interested to apply for membership. The fees are based on category of membership, and include many benefits, including professional, financial and personal. The future of natural perfumery is very exciting. We're still in the formative stages of laying the foundation for this wonderful art, this art that brings us so much pleasure. I invite you to be a part of this foundation-building and help give input and feedback on this professional association, the Artisan Natural Perfumers Guild. The Guild will be our networking umbrella, our professional voice to the media and customers, and our very own meeting place where we can share and get to know each other.
