Guest guest
Thanks Chris...no worries! Well, my problem could be that I was saving the water from cleaning out the pot after making soap...sounds like you're talking about saving the " scraps " & adding them to some water...maybe the difference being that you have more soap than water...where I had more water than soap...the eo's could probably help too. I'm going to get me a jar & add my scraps to it & a little water & see what happens!!! If nothing else it will be an interesting experiment!!! lol Thanks!!! donna Donna Buchholz www.somethingdifferentsoap.com www.prairie-craft.com coming soon! - Christine Ziegler Sorry for the delayed reply .. I'm catching up on old mail ... To answer your questions in a word .. no. I've never had mold grow in my container of " soap snot " (bar soap shavings dissolved in water) and I never added a preservative to it either. I have a container of some sitting in my kitchen which is at least a month old. I checked it this morning and its fine. Dunno why yours molded but mine doesn't .... maybe its cause I usually add some EO's to my soap snot jar and that helps out some? I didn't do that with the patchouli soap though ... hmmmm .... *Smile* Chris (list mom) <http://www.alittleolfactory.com/> http://www.alittleolfactory.com

I tried that once...added some leftover soap to some water & by the end of the week it had cooties!! ( Of course the trick might be to use it quickly & not " store " it...unless maybe you add a preservative? Just curious!! donna Donna Buchholz Something Different Soap & Things www.somethingdifferentsoap.com - Christine Ziegler I did something very similar a few weeks ago. I made up a fresh batch of my Nanny's Patchouli Goat Milk bar soap. After trimming them I took the shavings and put them into an empty container that I once had rose hydrosol in. I then added water and turned it into liquid house cleaning soap. It smells SO wonderful that I'm going to be making an ultra-luxury soap scent blend with the genuine patchouli, vanilla AND rose! Guest guest
Hi Donna, The " soap " left in the pot when you make soap is still very raw, and needs to cure, or it will take the hide right off you (grin). Its still very lye heavy at that stage. You can scrape out all the soap and leave it to cure like you would the rest of the batch - and then sliver it and add it to water. My dad used to put all the " down to the last scrap " soap bars into an old mug and use it as shaving soap, and I have other friends who put soap scraps into the food processor and then use it that way. Soap snot describes it totally - my experience is that it gives up the water fairly quickly, so you have to keep an eye on it and top it up from time to time. Guest guest
Another wonderful idea!!! Thanks Jennifer!! have a great evening! donna Donna Buchholz www.somethingdifferentsoap.com www.prairie-craft.com coming soon! - Jennifer Donna, Do you have foamy pumps? You could probably use it in one of those... but you have to make sure that the water is not extremely hot when you do it, cause sometimes the bottles are heat sensitive.
