Guest guest
Hi Cindy, Poke certainly grows up there in NJ. At least it should as it grew happily in Queens, NY. Back in the days when I used to be a good list mom (now I'm a neglectful list mom *sigh*) and did the Herb Of The Week, we covered pokeweed and poke salad (salat) and discussed how to use and prepare poke properly for ingesting (it can make one quite ill if its not used properly). I think it comes in a can in some markets ... you're probably more likely to find it in the SE part of the country rather than the NE though ... In the group's files section we have an archive of the herbs covered and the messages related to them. Here is the poke link: http://health.HERBS/Pokeweed / I hope that helps you out some *Smile* Chris (list mom - another Yankee who has never eaten poke salad, just always knew it as a plant that makes cool looking berries that we don't eat *lol*) <http://www.alittleolfactory.com/> http://www.alittleolfactory.com cynthia gooding Thanks, Butch! They might call it " polk " down in TaxUs .. in Kawacky we call it poke salat .. everbody knows salat ain't got no " d " in it. Texacans don't got horses .. they got hosses .. so likely it is they got polk too. ;-) Its one of the most tasty poisonous plants around .. Gotta boil it twice and throw the water out each time .. larpin' gud it is. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/poison/Phytoam.htm Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com PS: We got another kinda poke down home .. its a bag whut you put possums and chickens and hickory nuts in.
