Guest guest
Coming out of lurking to ask a question. What is the best way to dispose of old fragrance oils and carrier/base oils? I assume the FO should be treated and disposed of like a chemical (keeping container sealed, wrapping in newspaper, putting in a bag, and placing in a trash bag). I assume the rancid oils should be treated the same. I haven't used or purchased any fragrance oils in 15 years. I thought I had given ways or sold all my FO, but found a box in the back of the closet. Since I now only use essential oils, I'm not too upset on finding a few old bottles of FO. But I am upset that I let Jojoba and Sweet Almond go to the bad. Guess that's what I get for not properly labeling boxes when I moved. LOL Thanks for your suggestions. Guest guest
Hi Ginger, Actually, in most states, essential oils, fragrance oils and fixed oils are considered hazardous materials and need to be taken to the appropriate collection site for hazardous materials disposal, not to the local landfill. A minute quantity left in a bottle could go with your regular trash, but if you are disposing of any quantity, check with your Waste Management Facility and follow the rules to be kind to the environment. I would be very surprised if NC suggests the disposal method for chemicals that you talk about below. Your state may be more lax than others, but that would be sad. :-( Up here in the left-hand corner we are all eco-freaks, you know. :-) Be Well, Marcia Elston http://www.wingedseed.com " Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot. Guest guest
Thanks. Actually my local landfill is who suggested the method I described. I guess different places do different things.
