Guest guest
Happy Friday Folks! I figured I'd post this here since its a topic I bet a few would be interested in: One of my soap making buddies was asking me if dried St. John's Wort can be used to make a good infused SJW Oil. Well, I went to talk to one of my herbalist buddies, who annually makes SJW oil, and she told me to tell my soap buddy the answer is absolutely NOT! Fresh flowers are needed to make the desirable, red, powerful, SJW oil. SJW's blooming season is coming very soon, so start planning now if you are going to want to harvest and/or mail order some fresh flowers! Anyone have any good sources to share? Unfortunately it is something that doesn't grow well in this sea level, subtropical climate which I currently reside in. *Smile* Chris (list mom) Friday Is A Fantastic Day To Flaunt Your Flirty Fragrances in Style http://www.alittleolfactory.com/ <http://www.alittleolfactory.com/jewelry.htm> jewelry.htm

Another important fact: the best St--John's wort oil is made with organic, cold presses olive oil! You should harvest the flowers in the morning, when the plant is dry regards, Michel Vanhove
Guest guest
Yes, fresh flower heads with a few leaves give the best quality oil. Beware of picking the flowers with bare hands because you will have red fingers for the next 6 months! The fresh juice can also be a mild photosensitiser so best to be cautious. I always wore disposable plastic gloves when I realised what that red stain did to my skin. I used to gather it every day and keep adding the flowers to the same batch of oil until the container was full. Then stand it in the sun for a couple of weeks, making sure the oil (sunflower) was covering the flowers. Used to make mine in a South facing greenhouse which got real hot.
