I've been told that the best time to harvest lavender is in the a.m. before

the hot sun appears. Buds should be almost ready to bloom - but not in full

blossom. Has anyone ever heard differently??? It works for me.

Incidentally Pam, I live in Westminster, Md. near Littlestown, Pa. we're

neighbors....and I'll be harvesting my lavender first thing in the morning.

Hello all! I'm a lavender lover, and grow it to add to my soaps and

infuse in oils for making soap, lotions, healing balms, etc...as I was

picking some today, it occurred to me that I really don't know for

sure when is the best time to pick the lavender! I've always assumed

it should be picked when it's in bud, but not yet in

blossom...although, I'm usually behind schedule and end up picking it

after it's in blossom to use for infusing anyway--still I do try to

get it picked before it blossoms...just exactly when is the BEST time

to pick the lavender to be dried, and then infused, so that I'll

actually be getting the most benefit from it?

I was just out cutting my lavender today as well. It is in bud and smells so

wonderful. I use mine to make floral water as well as infusing into oil, but I

also gather up bunches and make hanging bunches of lavender with pretty ribbons

on the stalks. I have always been taught to cut it when it is in the bud if you

want to save the buds. But as I use it for a variety of things, I cut it at

different times myself...I figure if it smells good, it is a good time, lol.
