Guest guest
Hi Everybody! Even though its cloudy and rainy today in my neck of the sub-tropical jungle - The Season of the Sun is just about here. It is the eve of Summer Solstice. Le Soliel is at its zenith - Happy Summertime To All !!! Our friends in Parts of Canada & Alaska should be partying all night (errr ... DAY) long for the next several lack of nights! Of course to all of our friends in the Southern Hemisphere - we wish you a wonderful longest night of the dark half of the year - Winter Solstice Today, I am going to rave about how much I love Rose Otto - Turkish being my personal fave - but I suppose I'm biased there, having been in those rose fields myself ... here take a peek ... http://www.av-at.com/stuff/triptoturkey.html (BTW - that web page was built years ago, before I really knew how to build web pages, and I haven't updated it in ages, so please excuse the lack of design . I've been buried in projects and orders, and because of several of those projects I've been working with Rose Otto ( & Absolute & CO2) a lot recently. I suppose I'm inspired by the beautiful, aromatic, Springtime rose blossoms in my garden, as well as the knowledge that the new crop of Rose Otto has been distilled, Rose Concrete has been extracted and Rose Petal Jam has been jarred! Oh so yummy Rose Petal Jam. It amazes me how much the Rose Otto and Rose Petal Jam smell just like the huge bags and bags of pink damascena rose petals that are harvested in the rose fields! I feel that the opportunity to use true Rose Otto in my creations is very special indeed. Did you know that it takes about 4000 kilograms of handpicked (before 11AM) Rose Petals to make about 1 kilogram of Rose Otto? Even though it is one of the most costly ingredients I work with, a little goes very far. Which brings me to my next point ... Sometimes when folks get Rose Otto they sniff it right out of the bottle at 100% strength and get overpowered. That is really NOT the best way, or even a good way, to smell Rose Otto (or for that matter any volatile fragrant material with a strong characteristic). You need to dilute it: i.e. by putting a drop on a scent strip, or " tincturing it " in either a fixed oil or strong alcohol, etc ... Then the true beauty and character of it can fully be appreciated. Also, some have never smelled true Rose Otto. I've even met folks who didn't know what a real rose even smelled like! Its actually not surprising when you think about it. The average rose bouquets from the stores/florists, and even some rose bushes, don't smell like roses (or anything for that matter). The commonly available " rose " scented body care products, room sprays and candles don't smell like real roses either. How is anyone supposed to know what a rose smells like? Rose, the Queen of all flowers. Rose, the blossom that Nero and Cleopatra were so obsessively infatuated with. Rose, one of the most celebrated and useful flowers throughout history, and many of us don't even really know what true rose smells like. What an olfactory travesty for our society! Anyway, what ends up happening for those who have been true rose olfactory experience deprived is they relate that common synthetic perfume oil rose scent with what " rose " should smell like and then when they smell Rose Otto (and in full concentrated form right out of the bottle to boot) it isn't what they expected. Many times this an almost disagreeable shock at first, but something actually turns out to be for good in the end. See, I've found that once they dilute it and actually appreciate REAL rose for the first time its like an awakening. I've met people, including myself, who always thought they hated rose scent, until they got to appreciate the real deal! It was fake rose that they weren't into (and I don't blame them ! Now I love real Rose Otto in everything from food recipes to personal care items, to boudoir sprays and more .... I hope everyone is able to experience, appreciate and enjoy some beautiful true Rose Otto this Summer, as well as Rose Hydrosol, Rose Petal Jam, Rose yada yada ... Look for our new Wicked Rose collection coming this Autumn!
