Guest guest
I've been reading everything that has been going on and have firmly kept mouth shut and stayed out of it. Which, for those of you who know me, knows how very difficult that is. ;-) Now that things are REALLY getting nasty, I've decided to put my 2¢ in and try and turn it into something a little more " educational " . Which is what this list is about, in part. Martin has a very valid point. He just doesn't have a lot of social finesse. He says his truth and if you don't like it, tough. If you have facts to back up your truth, he is more than willing to take a look. If he finds errors with your facts, he will point them out, again, not in the most gentle manner. I have found, in dealing with a lot of really intelligent people, the truth is more important than hand holding to get that point across. If you are a gentle soul, you can get your feelings hurt when dealing with these kinds of people. That's not their intention, their intention is to point out the truth. Now Debbie and for those of you who hold the same beliefs as she does, you are not alone. Unfortunately too many people believe the same. Young Living and many earnest but misguided authors have made up, passed on, created so many fairy stories about Essential Oils, that these days it's hard to find out what the real facts ARE. Too many well meaning folks hear/read these stories and believe them to be fact and keep passing them on, or even worse acting on them. Do EO molecules pass through the skin... Some parts of them might, the majority of them being too large to do so. Do they enter the blood stream? Not likely and if so, the amount would be so small so as not to have any benifit, fortunately, also not do harm. Should one recommend that folk take EO's orally. No and no and NO. Unless one is a qualified MD, to recommend such a thing is " practicing medicine without a license " . Which can get your butt thrown in jail AND sued. Aromatherapy and Toxins... Personally I hate the word toxins. Just what is meant by " toxins " ? EO's clearly can do damage to the liver if too much is used and over time as it is the " cleaner fish " of the body and this " only " through inhalation. Imagine, oral or internal use. The damage can add up faster and last longer. If ingested, EO's can poison. If used on the skin, they can cause rashes and burns. Even just inhaling them can cause headaches, dizzyness if too much is used (or even just smelled straight from the bottle) EO's are clearly not " benign " even with proper use. Things can and do go wrong even with the most careful and knowledgable person. The point of this little missive is " knowledge " . Who has the correct information and who is passing around lies, myths and misinformation? THAT is the tricky part of the situation. I KNOW that YL is full of crap, lies and vido tapes. I KNOW that a lot of books out there are peppered with bad information and trying to sift the wheat for the chaffe is a hard thing to do. I also know that I trust the research that Martin Watt has done and I use his Plant Aromatic collection. Does he have all the answers? No. Do I agree with all the things he says? No. Why? Because I've got a mind of my own and I like to figure things out for myself. However as a source on EO's, their behaviour, and the percentage that should be used, (on the oils he has researched), he's spot on. The problem with the Aromatherapy community, especially in the US. is that there is no cohesiveness. No direction. No reliable, trustworthy, honest and decent " center " to revolve around. As long as this continues, as long as there is no consensus, this sort of thing will continue. The bickering, the arguing, the hurt feelings will continue as will the spreading of YL lies, the spreading of Myths and the spreading of misinformation. In the end, we will ALL lose. Now, I hope that EYE didn't hurt anyone's feelings. My lack of finesse comes not from being intelligent, but from the fact that I'm tempermentally suited to slugging someone rather than kissing them. LOL! ;-) K -- Cheers! Kathleen Petrides The Woobey Queen Http://www.woobeyworld.com <http://www.woobeyworld.com/>
