Guest guest
Ya know, all the talk on dermal absorption of oils into the bloodstream reminded me of a local news story from a few months back ... A lady got arrested cause, apparently her alcoholic husband could no longer drink due to serious esophageal and stomach problems cause by his alcoholism, so she started giving him sherry wine enemas. Well, it killed him ... but my point is ... If complete absorption into the bloodstream of all solvents placed onto the upper and outer layers skin were possible and easy, I'm sure this guy would have preferred to just soak his arm in a sink-full of his poison instead of shoving it up his .... *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com <http://www.alittleolfactory.com/>
Guest guest
Also the story of the guy who is a glass of orange juice would be more prevalent... If you don't know the story.... OHHHH it's bad... One of those urban myths surrounding Acid (LSD type) and back pockets and pools etc. Anyway.. I'm glad not everything gets through the skin, cause if it did... We could get fat by just using lotion... Guest guest
What about topical medications? There are a lot on the market and I think most people believe that just about anything medicinal or cosmetic can and does penetrate the skin . Look at all the magic microphosporescentlipoproteingel that is supposed to give us the skin of a 20 year old. These manufactures have people believing that the skin can be changed from absorbing all of these miracle ingredients through the skin. Then there's real medicine. I have rampant atopic and atopic dermatitis genes on both sides of the family. We've all been through our share of steroid creams and ointments. The creams are not nearly as good as the ointment based steroids at getting the medicine in. In any case, there is a warning on topical steroids about supression of the adrenal glands. It's highly unusual for an adult to get that much exposure to the cream but it can happen to very young and/or small children if it's used long enough over a wide area. The same thing will happen with oral steroids. Even if that doesn't happen, it's possible that the skin can atrophy--mine did on my calves. I wonder what sort of vehicle caries the steroid into the dermal layer--steroids have a large molecular structure, don't they (a little out of my field here, microbiology was my thing)? Can eo's be transported by chemical cart? Andrea
