Guest guest
When I planted my herb garden 5 years ago, I had no idea my sage and rosemary plants would get as big as they are now. One of them needs to be moved. I thought the sage might be easier because it's the smallest of the two plants. When would be the best time to move this plant? I don't want to kill it. Or would it be better to move the rosemary? Thanks, Ginger
Guest guest
Dear Ginger, Moving sage is a tricky proposition. Rosemary is easier to move HOWEVER, most perennials have a 3 to 5 year life span. It may be that both of yours are now at their peak. In which case, neither will enjoy being moved. You did not mention WHERE you live. That also determines the best time o f year to move a plant. The best time, in most climates being of course, the spring. If it were MY garden, I would harvest both plants and make dried teas, tinctures (sage tincture makes a great base for a deodorant) etc., and take cuttings of both. Rosemary does well by layering but you can grow sage cuttings in water on the windowsill. Or you can use a rooting compound (aspirin in water is onesuch) and grow them in a growing potting medium. Then you can plant new perennials exactly where you want them and enjoy THEIR growth.........................Herbally yours Penny On 6/29/06, Ginger <gingerc wrote: > > When I planted my herb garden 5 years ago, I had no idea my sage and > rosemary plants would get as big as they are now.
