Guest guest
A gal on my Rubberstamping list posted this question to the group, and I thought I'd inquire here in case anyone had any suggestions. In a subsequent email, she describes the smell as " sour " , as opposed to " mildewy " Thanks! Karen I need laundry help. My husband's jeans have a nasty mildew smell around the front pockets. How in the world do I get rid of this? Why don't my jeans have this problem?? We had been hang drying them in our basement. He just noticed a couple of months ago that his jeans were smelling weird. I started drying his jeans in the dryer to make sure they dried completely. (Mine still hang dry without any issues.) I just washed a load of his jeans and they smelled taking them OUT of the washer. (Just in the front pocket area.) I had been washing them in cold water. I'm washing them right now in warm water with a cold water rinse. Would using a safe for color bleach help?? Could this be from him wearing his jeans typically more than one day in a row? Yuck!! Thank you for ANY help you can provide me with!!! Guest guest
Dear Karen, My standby for my husbands dirty shorts or pants in our sub tropical climate is to add white vinegar to the wash. I add about 1/2 to1 cup to a full capacity wash. This seems to help rid his clothes of the " perspiration dried and then worn again " smell........Herbally yours Penny On 7/6/06, Karen M Chan <kmchan wrote: > A gal on my Rubberstamping list posted this question to the group, and I > thought I'd inquire here in case anyone had any suggestions. Guest guest
Sour is what people mean when they mold/mildew. Cause it is a sour smell. Anyway.. You can do a couple of things. Add coffee to the wash cycle. (yes I know it sounds weird, but it works) after the water has run and before it starts agitating. Or you can add baking soda to the laundry. Color safe bleach would be okay, I guess I don't do bleach unless I absolutely have to. You could also add some of the citrus essential oils to the wash cycle after the water runs and before agitation... If worse comes to worse you can always spray with febreeze and set in the sun. It works on sweat soaked renfest garb... And that's some of the Stankiest clothes I've ever smelled.. Guest guest
Oh golly, this could just open a can of worms of funny comments. However, I gotta ask: Does he put anything in his pockets? Does he hang his thumbs in his pockets and if so do his hands come in contact with organic matter during the day. (No jokes please), like maybe he works around food or plants or even animals? Does he drive a lot, maybe it would account for more perspiration in the front pocket area? There has to be something that he is doing differently. She might try a vinegar rinse, maybe even dab some vinegar on the problem areas before washing. Guest guest
As vinegar kills suds I add it to the rinse cycle also baking soda added to the wash will help also.
