HI Everyone,

I really would like & need your help & advice please? I'm just being

driven crazy by this rash!

I'm a 51 year old woman with luckily for me, great skin until now.

After terrible years of acne as a kid,I did not get the acne under

control until my late 20's & since then people have commented on how

young & fresh my skin looks. Over the past 3 months, " a rash " has

started with some red, raised, lumpy & itchy blotches around my lips

& jaw line, which have been spreading slowly, despite the diligent

care that goes into trying to get rid of them. They often only have

the tiniest of heads in them, certainly not enough to drain. I have

used acne lotions, aloe Vera cream with added calendula E/O & carrot

seed oil. Didn't help. Clay masks, no good. Green tea bags, no good.

Have since added after freshly washed skin, a homemade toner spray

made with predominantly good quality rose water, small amount witch

hazel, less than 10% glycerine & essential oils of rosewood,

chamomile, palmarosa, rose geranium, rose centifolia, neroli,

frankinsence, petitgrain, lemon, to 2% concentration total. Apart

from the blotchy itchy areas, the rest of my skin looks good. Any

ideas???

Many thanks for any suggestions. They will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Ann Grady.

It sounds like it might be acre rosacia. You might want to see a

dermatologist. I had that condition when I was around 32 and I finally went

to a dermatologist and she said it was the worst case she had ever

seen....It was very infected by the time I saw her. I had it all over my

face but it started out on the chin. I used topical antibiotics to get rid

of the infection and the condition went away on its own in about two years..

I really feel for you. It is not fun...I hope you can get some answers.

I know there are folks here who might toss pebbles in my direction for

suggesting this, but I think you should see a demermatologist if you

haven't already.

It could be a contact dermatitis which has taken hold, or maybe something

in your diet changed and you're slightly allergic to it, or maybe your

skin is reacting to all the different things you've been trying to fix it.

Might even be a virus of some sort. The problem and it's source need to

be diagnosed properly.

Even as an MK consultant (who daily touts properly cleansing, moisturizing

and protecting one's skin, and could suggest all kinds of potions to ya,

but I won't!), I wouldn't recommend anything but seeing a dermatologist,

esp. as the condition seems to be spreading.

Whatever you do, don't pick, scratch or squeeze!!!! Like I tell my

customers: keep your hands completely away from your face!

I've developed multiple chemical sensitivity as a result of over use of the

products I sell (back, years ago, when I didn't know better...everyone SAID

you could use lavender and tea tree neat, after all ;)

One thing, in case this IS a sort of contact dermatitis, that has helped me

immensely. Airborne sensitizers caused my dermatitis, on my face. And

having, for example, lavender poured in the next room was enough to do me in.

This will cost you next to nothing, and MAY help the problem... the

routine a VERY unusual dermatologist suggested to me...

after washing my face at night, add a splash of vinegar to warm water,

make a warm compress and hold it against the 'problem areas' for five to 10

minutes. make it a VERY weak (diluted) vinegar solution.

After that, when I'm having trouble, I use a Rx ointment he prescribed,

that works for ME... but you can skip that. maybe use a very light

carrier oil as a moisturizer. I would avoid ALL essential oils and

hydrosols for the time being. (yes, I'm saying don't use my products! ;)

After washing your face in the morning, before doing ANYTHING else... apply

a layer of SUNSCREEN for sensitive skin. The doc thought I could find a

'colorless' one, but not in the 'for sensitive skin' so I use

neutrogena.. apply it like moisturizer, with heaviest application in the

problem areas. After about 20 mins or so, I then can apply makeup (I use a

specific brand of mineral makeup that works for MY skin with MY allergies.

I also find that if I use any sort of lip liner it will aggravate the

condition. I can wear lip gloss, lipstick, but not the liner... ???? go

figure.

anyway... this has made a HUGE difference for me, and might be worth trying.

(if you do see the dermatologist, and he confirms Rosacea... get some

helichrysum hydrosol!!! corsican, of course ;)
