Guest guest
Chris, This is an awesome idea. My van is parked out of the garage right now due to the kid's college stuff being in there. I love the energy saving idea, plus my car can really use the aromatherapy!! What I love the best about this idea though, is that I use the HP method and my kitchen gets very warm. By putting the soap in my van, I will save not only the energy that it would take up in the oven, but my AC won't have to work as hard. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! It doubles as an air freshener too Here in my neck of the woods, which is SE Gulf coast TX, temps inside a car can easily hit 150F or more! This creates the perfect solar oven for soap making. Actually - I got this tip from our resident TX Savonniers! :-D Simply mold your soap, insulate it, stick it in the trunk or back seat of your car that is baking in the 90F+ heat with direct sun beating down on it, and a few hours later, voila, hot process in the mold soap (and a nice smelling car)! *Smile* Chris (list mom)
Guest guest
I wonder if you could do the same thing with a cardboard box, lined with aluminum foil and put something over the top, like a piece of Plexiglass. It sure would get warm in there. What cha think. Guest guest
Don't use tinfoil. You can use a trashbag instead. Lye eats aluminum. I ve tried something like that before.. It takes for ever to get soap out of seats that aren't leather... And the soap attracts dirt.. ... Guest guest
I also put it in my horse trailer!! Even though it's not completely closed, it's all metal and gets very hot in there and I can put a lot of molds in there!! Works like a charm!! Yes, my trailer is clean!! I think I use it more to travel to shows than I use it for my animals!! Guest guest
No, I don't mean put your soap in a mold lined with aluminum foil. I meant, line a large cardboard box with aluminum and set your mold inside the box and cover with Plexiglass. I guess my fingers didn't write what my half a brain was thinking. But while I slept, half of my brain leaked out and the cat played with it and now I haven't been able to locate it. You'll have to bare with me till I sweep the dust bunnies from under the bed and see if it is there. Guest guest
I call it solar soap. Been making soap this way in the summer for 2 years now. I usually make soap in the oven and this way I can make twice as much each day. I put my soap in the oven at night and turn the oven off just before going to bed. That way I don't have to run the oven for 2 hours in the morning. In the morning the soap is ready to come out of the oven and I can then use my molds to make soap out in the car. That soap is ready to come out of the mold at night and I can make soap in the oven Paula .......... in Michigan I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away Chris, This is an awesome idea. Guest guest
It's alot like making oven process soap. I put the soap in the mold and set the mold on the floor of the car in the morning and that night I have a loaf of soap to take out. Guest guest
I know Evelyn very well ............. she's too honest to run for office. She's not crooked enough and can't afford to pay off enough people in this town to win Paula .......... in Michigan I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away [Dave:] Why not run for office instead? Guest guest
What's the point? No disrespect meant ~ is the soap better in some way letting it get hot in the oven, car or trailer? I use DWCP - pour my soap into the mold and set it on the counter in the soap room. Throw a bath towel or two on the molds and come back in 12 hours and cut the logs into bars. I don't want to be the only soaper not putting her molds in the car <grin> -- Be Well, Bobbi Guerra The Purple Sage ~ Bath & Body www.thepurplesage.com
Guest guest
the point is that it is the same as making oven process soap but with free/solar heat heat. The soap is ready to use the next day instead of Cold Process soap and having to wait 4- 5 weeks or more for it to dry/cure Paula .......... in Michigan I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away What's the point? Guest guest
Oh Bobbi, you're so not with the latest soaping fashion trends *lol* Just kidding! {grinz} I love it cause I can make fast HP soap with free energy (the solar oven that is my car) and also I don't have to warm up the house I am so desperately trying to keep cool (and those A/C are murder down here!). I can even make liquid soap paste in the car it gets so hot in there! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Bobbi What's the point? Guest guest
You can use HP right away if you want to. Cold process is a longer wait time for some of us. And I don't have the patience for it most of the time. I want my soap NOW! And no disrespect taken. Jennifer ---- Bobbi 07/21/06 10:17:09 Re: Making Soap In The Car What's the point? Guest guest
I just read this thread, what a great idea. It hit a record high of 115 this weekend, what a great way to benefit from this horrible heat.
