There are only a few that are safe to > use neat, NO! None of the oils are what I would call " safe " to use neat! Every single oil is prefereably to be diluted before use! We have at least 3 people here on this list I personally know who are totally sensitized to lavender - one of the oils many folks say is " safe " to use neat!!! In fact - I know more folks sensitized to lavender than any other volatile oil cause that is the one they feel most safe using neat!!!!!! I really can't stress this enough - even if I got a gong and went out in the street chanting at the top of my lungs (and I am a loud Italiano New Yawkuh) - " Hear ye, hear ye - NO essential oils are safe to use undiluted!!! Thou shalt not believe-ith the crap-ith you've heard-ith that lavender and tea tree oils are safe to use neat!!! " and even in trace amounts people can have a > reaction. Yep, the joys of being sensitized! That is why we harp SO much here about diluting ALL EO's .. You run a MUCH lower risk of developing a sensitization when you dilute the stuff - and the EO's work just as well diluted, if not better even! Out of three dozen EOs on my shelf, there are only > two I ever use on skin (tea tree and lavender), and less than > a dozen that I put in soap. The rest are strictly for > aromatherapy. There are a few though which I've never tried > in soap and would like to: vetiver is one, and jasmine is another. I'm not quite as worried about the oils in a wash off product like soap. Obviously one would want to work within certain safety guidelines, but I'd say to go and have some fun with those soap scents, Dave! :-D Vetiver is wonderful, as long as you get a good Vetiver - otherwise it just STINKS like weird burnt roots - yuck! ;-p HEY, that reminds me - Anita, I have to get my Vetiver plants from you still!!! {grinz} *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
