Guest guest
Heck yeah! I had to discontinue a line of decorative perfume bottles I carried for years, which are from the UK. The supplier's price hadn't changed, but after the exchange rate and increased cost of shipping were figured in, I would have had to practically double the for sale price of the bottles, and that wasn't happening! Also a jewelry manufacturer that I work with is now charging a 20% " fuel surcharge " on all their pieces due to their increased (shipping) costs for the raw materials they use to make the jewelry. ... And yes about the VISA card 3% international transactions charge Marge .. VISA even tried to do that to me when I made a payment to a company whose offices are in the US and the raw material comes from overseas to THEIR warehouse in the US and then ships within the US from the US, but VISA tried to call it an international charge ... Both I AND the supplier fought with VISA on that one (and won actually !!! Sheesh! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Marge Clark At 10:49 PM 7/26/2006, you wrote: >As an example, rose oil from the producers has risen approximately 235% >since I first started importing from Bulgaria in the mid 90's. The real killer, above and beyond the basic increases in the cost of commodities is both the exchange rate and the cost of gasoline. We just ordered another shipment of the PET bail jars. The PRICE has stayed the same over three years. Our COST has increased 15% each year because of transportation charges escalating. Yesterday I did a funds transfer to a Canadian distiller. The Canadian dollar used to be worth 75 cents. Yesterday the transfer rate was 95 cents... adding 20% to what I paid, even tho the suppliers price remained constant. And I don't know about anyone else's VISA cards...but ours are now charging an additional 3% for an " international transaction " ... (The grapefruit increase is, I believe, because of the damage from the hurricanes over the past two years....more than the loss of one year's crop, the orchards and the fields they grow in received lasting damage.)
