Guest guest
Happy Friday Marge, All, Moving away from the specific recipe that brought up this topic, and moving more towards the discussion of the potential benefit of adding helichrysum to a sun protection recipe of any sort ... Was there any indication as to what kind of Helichrysum " extract " ? Gosh that " extract " can be such a vague word *lol* Infusing Helichrysum flowers in an oil that already has " sun screening " or " sun blocking " properties (Red Raspberry Seed for example) or using a Helichrysum tea as the water phase for a lotion may be things to consider ... any of our resident herbalists (and I know you're out there, even if you are hiding from me ;-p) have anything to say on this one? Now of course, I must put out this disclaimer whenever talking about making " sun stuff " ... folks can't go sell homemade sunscreen SPF anything, you have to go through lots of steps to legally do that, what I am talking about is making up items for casual personal use .... which includes NOT relying on it to protect you from burning to a crisp while sunbathing on a pool floaty for 12 hours *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Marge Clark At 06:49 PM 7/21/2006, you wrote: <snipped> I have read that a 2% helichrysum EXTRACT can have sun block properties. Guest guest
Dear Chris, When I make aged Helichrysum infused oils I always use a goodly amount of coconut oil in the formula to act as a natural sunscreen and it works well for me and my clients. I have used coconut oil (the regular 76 degree non-fractunated kind) because it does work well here in the North Texas sun. As long as I wear a formula with coconut oil in it, I don't burn and I am nearly 57 years old and have lived here all my life.
