Hey Vickie,

When using kefir in a soap, do you have to work with as cool as possible

like when using fresh milk?

Would one want to add it to the lye water, or ... ?

I'm just picturing having stinky orange curdled soap if done wrong ;-p

Anyone use whey in their soaps? I have a few mason jars full of the

stuff in my fridge and I can only lacto ferment so much stuff!

Hey Chris,

The kefir should be as cold as possible - more on the slushy side,

I do dissolve my lye in a small amount of water and let it cool (very

cool) then add the keifr to the lye/ water mixture (slowly) , after the

lye/water/kefir mixture is combined I slowly add it to the oils - the

oils should also be a bit on the cool side. But even with the cooler

temps the kefir soaps want to heat up, sometimes it heats up very fast

in the mold and other times it waits hours before trying to gel - go

figure.

Others may have different experiences - this is what I have come

across with working with kefir in soap.

Whey huh? lol need to look into that

I have used whey in soap. It took FOREVER to trace and FOREVER to dry, but

it does make a nice soap! If you use all whey, you want to make sure you

use a scent to compliment it because that sour smell may come through if you

don't.

Of course, that's my experience with it...YMMV. ;-)
