Guest guest
Well, I can tell you that Spokane is all that and more. I haven't been there in more than too many years but I started out my life there and many of the highlights of the area are still present. It's a fairly large city with a small town feeling. I remember as a child walking at least a mile to school in the snow and returning as an adult to find out it was just three blocks! Still have family there and will be returning again soon to visit. I moved from there and landed in CA nearly 40 years ago. Sue D. Woobey Queen <WoobeyQueen wrote: Location, Location, Location and moving. I'm another one in a holding pattern. I'm hoping my next stop is Spokane in 22 months. I know the time line is pretty accurate but the rest... Sometimes Vermont creeps in my thoughts, as does Oregon. Mainly because Himself is not sure he wants to move to Spooky Town... I know I want trees, water, 4 seasons, good education for the kids and a town/place that is fairly liberal in it's thinking. Spookaloo is NOT liberal, but it has it's liberal enclaves. I'd also like to be around family which I haven't been since I moved out over 25 years ago. Which makes Vermont almost a no-goer. Time is passing to slow right now, I just want to finally get to my " Forever Home " . At least until I'm wherehoused into the old folk factory. Glad you're back Butch. Missed your pithy posts. And how is the little Liberal Pacifist doing? (ROFLMAO!) Tell Tanya I said hello and that I was sure happy to meet her. Guest guest
" I started longing for a yard with some rusted car parts that might come in handy some day, and pickup trucks with guys in work clothing and chainsaws in the back. " >snicker< Oh DEAR! That's dire straights man, just dire! LOL! Not going to Canada. Been tempted a couple of times, but I'm getting old. I want to settle in one place where I never have to move again. After a lifetime of moving I'm dead sick of it. Spokane would be a sort of return home for me. Of course there have been a lot of changes, the most depressing and heartbreaking was 5 mile prairie where I used to live. It USED to be farms, open spaces, horses, geese and a bit of a walk between neighbors. Now it's wall to wall houses, roads paved where before there were only fields of alfalfa. Just AWFUL! I had my best friend drive me around Spooky town while I was there in July. What I have in mind is at least 20 minutes from a decent grocery store and 40 minutes away from Costco ( I LURV Costco. With 4 growing kids, buying in bulk is almost the only way to go!). I also looked at the two High Schools that might get my kids. I had to laugh cuz both are in the sticks, surrounded by cows instead of shopping malls and Starbucks, like most of them around here. Less ability to go AWOL or get into some kinds of trouble. That makes me a bit happier too. But as I said before, Nothing is settled or guaranteed. I hope wherever we end up, it's to the satisfaction of most of us. ;-) K On 11/12/06, Ieneke van Houten <ienvan wrote: > > > > -- Cheers! Guest guest
Sounds cool. I was raised in Eugene, Oregon... another " hippie capitol " . We have the Oregon Country Faire which is awesome. I'm about to turn 51, but I've never grown out of my hippie ways. Don't think I ever will. I’m going to be 56 this year. The older I get, the more I get back to my hippie ways. I’m basically conservative – my mom always called me a hippie redneck – but in the end what I figure out to be the conservative approach always turns out to be what everyone else thinks is the radical one. Nothing like being out of step with the times, maybe that’s why I’m so much into making soap. A few years back I went to a friend-of-a-friend’s 50th birthday party. They rented a place with a bar and threw a hippie-themed bash. So I’m in the men’s room, standing next to this middle-aged guy with a woman’s wig and a tie-dyed T-shirt, and he looks at me and sez, “Man, that’s your real hair, isn’t it?” -- Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.12.4/448 - Release 9/14/2006 -- Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.12.4/448 - Release 9/14/2006

Keep on going for another 2 hours North to the Slocan Valley and on to Nakusp in the Valley of Hot Springs. Most glorious scenery anywhere and awesome people, some of whom are liberal but not all. I really like the mix of loggers, miners and more airy types. Sedona where everybody is a " love and light " type gave me the willies. I started longing for a yard with some rusted car parts that might come in handy some day, and pickup trucks with guys in work clothing and chainsaws in the back. Society is like an ecosystem. We truly need all kinds. http://nakusphotsprings.com Ien in the Kootenays, in chamber of commerce mode http://profiles./free_green_living
