Guest guest
Hi Gloria, > I love this! After 14 years of going to doctors and 5 major > surgerys, I have discovered to get 4, 5 or more different > opinions before I do another sugery. I think that is a wise move .. I will certainly do that myself if I find myself facing such a decision. > Last doc removed the cartilidge out of my ankle and now I'm walking > bone on bone. Like when did I give him permission to do that??? I signed up for lots of e-mail alerts from various international sources and I see such things often .. not just in the USA. While visiting in Atlanta this trip .. my buddy's daughter (an RN married to a surgeon .. both working at Emory) said (and I think she was serious) that they were marking an X on places/parts to be operated on .. and having patients initial. Seems like a good way to avoid errors. > Needless to say I am doctor shy and if I had the cash I would go > somewhere else for treatment. The way the US handles Medical > Insurance and patient care is sad, especially for the elderly and > Vets who have served in the armed forces. I know many people that > must choose between food or precription medications. This is a crime. > Our people should be treated with more respect and diginity. Marcus > Welby where are you???? True it is that there's much room for improvement .. and the Marcus Welby types disappeared when medicine became a big business rather than what " might " have been a calling. But its not just in the USA where there are problems .. a recent article told of a situation in a European hospital where a healthy kidney was removed .. leaving the patient with only the diseased one. Whether or not they were able to correct the error .. the article didn't say. And .. though we have a long way to go in the USA .. I think that the further we are away from TOTAL Social Medicine .. the better off we are. When the gummit makes ALL the decisions for us .. we are at their mercy. I know of a feller in the UK who was put on a waiting list for an operation that would have been taken care of in short time in the US .. granted, he paid nothing .. but he himself admitted that the wait was too long and it concerned him. Governments are .. at best .. pains in the ass. They should be taking care of the citizens of their country but it appears that the norm is for them to take care of their own interests .. their party affiliation and their own futures. > Gloria Y'all have a good one .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
