Guest guest
Hi Michael, I can't help you with the tuberose, but I'm on the same adventure with you. I got a small still for home use a few months back and have been having so much fun with it. Knowing that I would be getting it, I planted bunches of several plants in the spring specifically to try. Holy basil and Corsican Helichrysum both made beautiful hydrosols, and ..well...a few drops of essential oil. I'm just playing to find out what works and what doesn't. My first couple batches I used plants that would be winners - peppermint and lemon verbena - so that I knew what to expect from a plant that had lots of oil. What have you tried so far? Guest guest
Hey Tina so far, being the the bay area I have a lot of things that I can collect in the wild. lemon eucalyptus and all of the other ones including peppermint eucalyptus, fennel, it growes everywhere in the city. Being that I am at the farmers market 3 times a week I have had great organic basil amd orange peels to distill. we have a juice bar that comes to one of the markets I do. Where I live there is a tennis court with a rosemary hedge around it so I can cut as much an I want distill. Its almost 6 feet high and growing like a weed. I collected bags of lavender when it was in bloom and just planted 60 plants today for next season. Your going to have a lot of fun. My distiller is 20 liter stainless and works like a charm michael - essentialherbal Tuesday, September 26, 2006 3:21 AM Re: making infusions with flowers Hi Michael, I can't help you with the tuberose, but I'm on the same adventure with you. Guest guest
" Your going to have a lot of fun. My distiller is 20 liter stainless and works like a charm " I have a little 2 liter glass tabletop model. I love it! Can I just tell you how envious I am of your " wild " plants? Wow! Both lavender and rosemary struggle to get thigh-high here, and many are annuals. Eucalyptus - never. I planted 10 lavenders that are hardy for next year (grosso), and they will be plenty for this still. A friend down the road has an herb farm, and we'll probably play with some of her leftovers too. Next spring there will be lots of wild stuff around to try, but right now I'm about to try some of the evergreens surrounding me. I live in the middle of a tree farm. There is some witch hazel growing nearby that I want to try too. Citrus fruits! Ah! dang! Now I won't be able to decide whether to dry them for potpourri or throw them in the still.
