Guest guest
I thought my recent experience worth mentioning on this group as it might help others. On the 20th I had a stomach operation via laparoscopy. That left 5 cuts in my abdomen with strips rather than stitches. After I came round I had a huge drainage tube running down into my stomach for 24 hours, plus my throat was very sore from the airway they put down during the operation. A day later I was home and started developing a night cough. Anyone who has had an abdominal op will know what that's like Tried NightNurse and pain killers but that just made me drowsy and didn't stop the cough. Here in the UK the nights have just got cold enough to have my electric overblanket on lowest setting. I have a heavy cotton cover over that blanket and so decided to try sprinkling a few drops of real English lavender oil onto it. The idea was so that the gentle heat would keep the vapours in the air all night and straight down my lungs. Well what a difference, first night I got two x 3 hour uninterrupted sleeps with only a couple of coughs. Next three nights a solid 6-7 hours with no coughing at all and last night 8 hours. I would not advocate putting essential oils onto an electric blanket, but on a cover it works well. So if anyone gets an irritating night cough, I reckon this works way better than using the oil in a room diffuser. Guest guest
Hi Martin, Take care of yourself and get all healed up soon. We dearly miss having our resident grumpy troll around !!!!! I would bring you some chicken soup (or whatever you can eat) if I were closer ... Is anyone here in Martin's neck of the UK woods able to bring the man some nice chicken soup ??? Thanks for the lavender tips! I want to add that when my kiddos get a cold and have that horrible night-time cough, I like to use, in addition to lavender, a drop or two of Lemon Myrtle also. *Smile* Chris (list mom) Artisan Natural Goodies http://www.alittleolfactory.com I thought my recent experience worth mentioning on this group as it might help others. Guest guest
Hi Martin, Hope you are feeling much better now. I know just what you mean about the night cough. I had a hysterectomy in February and developed a really bad cough which was ten times worse at night. I took a couple of drops of Eucalyptus EO in a steamer which helped a great deal. I also had my trusty Lavender sachet tucked in my pillow which helped me sleep. I live in Lincolnshire which is a little way from you but my daughter is a Zoo Keeper at Colchester Zoo and she lives in Witham so If you want some nice Chicken Soup let me know and she will bring some round.... Only problem is it would have to be tinned as she can't cook!! lol.. Thanks for the tip, hope you are well soon, take good care of yourself.
