When I was a kid everyone just got measles, mumps, etc. It was not

something we vacinated for. The only vacines were for the " biggies "

like smallpox and polio.

 

It does strike me that kids are more fragile these days. Some of

that I think is a result of all the " anti-bacterial " stuff that we

use. Kids are even required to take little bottles of that stuff to

school. They do not build strong immune systems.

 

It's a little like what happens to Americans when we travel to other

countries, and find ourselves spending a lot of time in the

bathroom. No immunity to the common germs.

 

On the other hand, I have know kids that suffered terribly from

constant ear infections, so much so that it is more than a mere

nuisance.

 

And the bottom line is that use of anti-biotics and such has

produced " super bugs " . Drug resistant bacteria and viruses. So we

created them and it has put us on the path of coming up with bigger

and better defenses.

 

So yeah, we are headed for some pandemics.
