Guest guest
________________________________ On Behalf Of Marsha Saturday, October 14, 2006 7:16 AM heart rate Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for slowing down a fast heart rate. Mine is giving me fits when I do something not real strenuous. It has been up to 205 at one time, but mostly around 160- 170 when I am working around the house. No chest pain or anything-- just fast rate and sweating. I have no insurance so can't go to the doctor until December. Any help is appreciated. Thank you, Marsha Hi Marsha, I am sure that you are talking about your blood pressure (systolic) rate which is always recorded as the top number with your diastolic number on the bottom. This records your heart beating and your heart relaxing between beats, respectively. The following link can give you lots of information. http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/hbp/ A systolic number at 205 is high, indeed. What is your bottom number (also very important). Optimum is 120 over 80. Most of us have irregular blood pressure with fluxuations throughout the day/night, but you are high enough to cause concern. Regular exercise and keeping your weight in normal range are the most important things to do, but I think you should find a way to get a medical consult and perhaps medication until you can learn to control high blood pressure through natural means. This is nothing to fool around with, and women have more problems in this regard than was thought in the past. A systolic rate of 205 could be high enough cause stroke. Most people who have a stroke never experience chest pain. Stop drinking coffee, if you do (opt for chamomile or relaxing tea); find time to meditate and relax; get out and WALK (start out slow and work up to brisk aerobic pace). Do any exercise with medical supervision at this point. Don't wait until December!!! Be Well, Marcia Elston http://www.wingedseed.com " Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot. Guest guest
Have you tried Hawthorn? It is a calming heart tonic and gentle enough to safely play with. The birds beat me to the berries this year, darnit. If it remains a concern, visit an MD for diagnosis, and once you have that, check into natural options. And of course, there is good old EFT. Try it on everything. Ien in the Kootenays http://profiles./free_green_living
Guest guest
Hi, Marsha! I was wondering how old you were, too. If you're beginning or in menopause, fluctuating hormones can also be a part of fluctuating heart rate and blood pressure. Of course, this knowledge is no reason not to seek someone's medical opinion. Do you have a county health department in your area? Or sometimes you can get your blood pressure done at a local drug store. When I was under a good deal of stress a few months ago because of a myriad of things my blood pressure went up to 190/110. I was afraid my doc would put my on BP meds ... he said " go excercise. " So I did. I learned they will typically tell you that and then monitor your blood pressure and if you have high reading three times in a row, then they talk meds. I don't know anyone who takes those meds who does not have side effects. My blood pressure is down in the 120/78 range now (what it used to be) and my cholestrol is 183. I have noticed that I can feel my heart race if certain emotional things happen (my Mom had seizures last week at the nursing home ... old memories of caring for her came crashing back and I could tell my heart rate was up). Eat fruits, veggies, fish or chicken ... stay away from fat and sugar (except " good fat " like olive oil, canola oil), try to walk at a good pace 20 minutes about 4 times a week ... if weather is bad, walking around a mall is certainly acceptable, and see if you can do some kind of meditation ... helps do a mind control on your body. Guest guest
One thing that works well for heart palpitations or a sudden heart rate increase is the essential oil Ylang Ylang ( extra). Several drops applied " neat " to the area over the heart helps to calm the heart rather quickly especially if it is related to hormone imbalance or panic attacks. But yes, it is very important to have it checked out.. Good health is a true blessing and gift! Many Blessings, Sherri Reehil-Welser CHA.CCA www.namastehealingarts.com dreamseeds wrote: I wanted to share what I have done when my heart rate has gone up like that. Once I had a horrible experience in my sleep which further helped me to understand my need to drop some weight...that is what has cured me thus far. But when this would happen BEFORE I lost weight, I used motherwort and dandelion tincture and it worked like a charr to calm things down. I may have had to take 2-3 droppers before it would normalize but it would. Are you menopausal by chance? Things like that can happen to a woman in menopause and sometimes is jsut one of those things that happens without concern until things balance out. The negative side of that is that women do suffer heart disease after menooause as well so it does not hurt to get it checked out. Healthy blessings to you! Guest guest
So I I don't know anyone who takes those meds who does not have side effects. Hey guys. I'm on a bp medication (Not be cause my bp is high, but because I retain water like a camel.) {retatining water like that also causes mood disorders in some people. It actually causes the brain to swell.} My bp is very low 118/60 was the last reading, and I hadn't taken my meds that day. I'm on Maxzide (actually the generic) the only side effects I have realized is feeling better, and I lost 10 lbs of water weight (this is before any signs of pms or anything) Anyway. Yes there are side effects and if you need medication and you're having a side effect that isn't kosher to you talk to the doc if they can't or wont find a replacement or at least try then fire them. Also talk to the doc about natural remedies... You do pay his bill don't you. He works for you. You don't work for him. If he/she doesn't respond positively to you regarding what you think is best for you then find another dr. My doc. Is really a dream. I tell him that I don't like to take pills and he gives me a natural way to deal with the problems. I've tried natural ways to deal with Bipolar disorder and well they aren't as effective as the allopathic yet. I'm not saying I'm giving up on natural but for now so that my kids and my family and friends are safe I'll take the allopathic rather than chance me doing something psycho to my family or friends. My doc even tells me to go exercise for my depression. (sounds like my Dad in that respect.) But the point is if you don't have a doctor that you can trust in regards to your health you might as well just let him or go. Cause trusting a Doctor and working in conjunction with your doctor for your benefit is like making sure that you're putting the right gas in your car. If you don't want to see a doctor try an acupuncturist, (Make sure they are liscensed though.) I have plenty of friends that are holistic minded that have allopathic doctors they work with for issues that cannot be handled effectively by other means. Herbs and oils and such can be helpful, but at this point you are describing a symptom. You need to know what it is a symptom of before you start treating it. Call the county if you have no insurance. Or go to an emergency room. Once you are sure you are not in serious trouble you can go the natural route. But the heart is really something you should not take a chance with. Joanne
