Guest guest
Sucky fish. Don't know the technical name for these things. It's a " cleaner fish " . What I'm wondering is can they live outside of water and for how long? I went into the sitting room a few minutes ago and was wandering around and went towards my desk where the fish tank is located. My foot hit something on the floor and... it was a fairly dried sucky fish. I picked it up thinking it was a shame (wondering at the same time how the darned thing got out and so far from the tank) as he is new (just bought this weekend). Anywho, the darned thing wagged it tail very weakly. I rushed and put him in the tank (at which point the darned crayfish who just KNEW that he was vulnerable went after him. Spent the next few minutes, separating cray and fish) and he weakly swam off. Bubbles came up and after the first Crayfish attack, he swam rather strongly to another corner of the tank where he laid down his fins and let out more bubbles. Now he's clinging to the side of the tank where sucky fish are SUPPOSED to be (instead of on my carpet getting stepped on). If the cat got him out (which is the only explaination I can think of) then it was quite a while ago. So. Can Sucky fish live out of water and for how long? Just another drama in the life. -- Cheers! Guest guest
When I was young, we had fish (no cats or dog-type pets allowed in the apartment building), including Bully who was an algae eater. He used to jump out whenever the lid was open. He was pretty hearty and, while we never let him lay there long (long enough for me to run screaming for my brother or mom to pick him up because I refused to touch him, or go get the fish net), he could probably do a minute or two. I was always surprised that the impact of landing on the carpet didn't kill him. Karen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Karen M. Chan | kmchan | Whatever Happens... Also, did you know that Chinese hamsters can swim? We know because ours got of their home, which was just above an aquarium. We found them swimming in the aquarium. I should've let them drown -- they are real monsters. Never, ever try to raise Chinese hamsters because they're so cute -- they are part demon. I think a pair of them could bring down a pit bull... No clue how long sucky fish live though. Susan H.
Guest guest
Thanks Susan, I'll keep " No Chinese Hamsters " in mind. Knowing my kids that's NEXT on their list. Actually it's their father I'll have to tell. He's ALWAYS allowing the girls talk him into more animals. I NEVER thought that I would have to be the one saying " NO MORE FLIPPIN ANIMALS! " I thought that would be him as he's not an animal lover. Darn girls have him twisted very tightly around their sticky fingers! ;-) K On 10/23/06, Susan Harkins <harkins1 wrote: > > . > > > -- Cheers! Guest guest
Hmmmm. This guy was out a long time.... Although you did remind me of our suicidal Sword tails that we had when we lived in the Phillippines. Darn things were ALWAYS leaping out of their tank. They always seemed to do it when someone was around. Although one did it in the middle of the night. One of my parents heard it hit the floor though and ran out bare foot (they were lucky not to hit a cockroach... rule in Manila was, turn on the light, wait one minute before walking across the floor. Gave the cockroaches time to run and hide. >shiver<) to grab it. As far as I can remember they did manage to survive until we moved. Oh... I voted. Thought the picture pretty spectacular. I wouldn't mind reading all three articles. Going to have to hit the library next month and ask the husband why we don't to it...
