Guest guest
Answering a post I just approved. Hey Jewel Recent studies have suggested that due to genetics and exposure to toxic chemicals (any idea of how many toxic chemicals are found in cord blood at the birth of a baby? I think I remember the number being over 200, course I'm old so my memory could be faulty but I do remember being horrified) that there is indeed a predispotition towards autism. In fact the studies say that children of engineers are much likely to have a predispotion towards austism than other children and children of parents of TWO engineers that number is statistically higher because of the engineers having a very controlled systemized personality and the ability to be so totally focused. This is not to suggest that all children will be autistic just that there can be a predisposition to it. Not everyone is born autistic either and like everything else there are degrees of autism. It can be triggered by something like a high fever to a blow to the head. For example, my husband is autistic. Aspergers syndrome (which, if engineers have autism, that one seems the one to be prevelent). He is classified as " High functioning " . Basically those with Aspergers TEND to be Highly Intelligent but Socially inept. He didn't have autism until he had a high fever from the measles. The saddest thing I ever heard him say was " I remember being normal. " Anyway, that means MY children have a predisposition towards autism. Which is why (if they get it at all) they only get ONE MMR dose. There have been a few studies to suggest a link between two or more MMR (measles, mumps, Rubella vaccines) and autism. I choose not to take the risk. Especially when I understood WHY kids these days are given three doses by their teens. So no, the suggestion isnt silly at all. K -- Cheers!
