Missed all the bouncing fun, but getting back in now. Chris, wish I'd had that Halloween menu 2 weeks ago when the " Parents " in the neighborhood had our big Halloween gala.... Anyway to the point..... I agree, to many vaccines. I have had most, work in health care Emergency Department for years, but I've not had the flu (The real thing, not what most people call the flu, which is really just a viral syndrome). I do believe in vaccines. My children who do have health problems, asthma, and one with a spinal tumor at 2, have gotten all the standards, and yes I do the flu vaccines for them. But I think you really need to look at lifestyle, where you live, urban, vs rural, family history, etc to decide what you need. I do work as a school nurse now..have a teenager I need to watch, like a Hawk. Some folks think that the schools force them on you, and that just ain't true in any of the 50 states. Anyone, at any time can get a medical waiver from your Doc, or a religious waiver that you sign yourself. Don't have to prove anything. I have never had Chicken Pox, at grandmas when my sisters broke out with it, and my parents made me stay there for 3 weeks. I thought they didn't love me anymore, I've since gotten over that, they do. I just steer clear of kids with it now. When I worked ED I got to go in on all the Herpes cases because I wouldn't get it, not having had chicken pox, you have to have that before you can get shingles/Herpes Zoster. I will note at least in Missouri the Colleges are a little more zealous about vaccinations, and they have added Meningitis to the list as mandatory (We lose at least 3 college kids a year to that disease, and the epidemiologic nightmare of tracking contacts have driven the colleges/universities to mandate absolute vaccination. But by then the kids are 18 so it's their choice....not that they're smart enough to make that decision. Vaccinations like other meds save many lives, and along the way, like all things take some. It does boil down to choice, just needs to be an informed one. Happy November, Lynn
Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Thank you for your input on this one. Although we have come to different conclusions regarding the merits of vaccines for our personal selves and our families, we do very much agree on what I consider the THE major point: Folks really need to make getting vaccines a well educated and informed decision, rather than something we do cause we're just going through the motions like everyone else does, or cause we think it has to be done for school, or cause the news said Walgreens is having shots on sale (or free) and we all love a bargain *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Hi All, I've been to busy with Ghosts and Goblins, and Witches to post lately.
