Guest guest
Hi, I found out about this group thru Anya's NP group. I mostly lurk there as well because I'm a complete (but enthusiastic) newbie in the world of natural oils + herbs. I used to think that I hated the scent of roses and other things because I didn't realize that I was smelling harsh chemicals. (And the roses my mom grew never had much of a scent). A few months back, I was gifted a teeny vial of rose otto that rocked my world. Now I have to force myself not to use up that precious wee bit, but I sniff it all the time. I can't get enough of it - and to think I grew up thinking I hated it! Anyhoo...sorry for the rambling intro. My question: My little bro is a newly minted resident at a hospital. He was regaling us with gross-out tales during dinner one night (I guess he'll always be my little brother) and sheepisly mentioned that he borrows a trick from the nurses when he attends to the patients with unusually pungent conditions. I was even more grossed out to learn that they spray harsh fragrance oils from Bed, Bath and Beyond into their masks when the smell is overpoweringly. I'd like to make a batch of natural sprays for him and the nurses. I'm trying to figure out which oils would smell good, be strong enough to cover up smells, but safe enough to inhale constantly on the mask. If it has anti-bacterial properties and promotes alertness, even better. Would grapefruit be the best option? I was going to dilute the EO's in alcohol so its easy to spray. Thanks for any advice. Guest guest
Hi Jane and welcome, I work in surgery full time and we get some nasty smells also. The standard of care for eons has been to dip q qtip in peppermint eo and put a tiny dab on your mask. One dip can be good for several masks. Too much and your eyes will water. And of course, mouth breathing is mandatory in stinky situations. Patti in Kenosha > My question: > > My little bro is a newly minted resident at a hospital.
