Proper dilution of citrus oils?

Hello everyone...

I'm interested in preparing massage/moisturizing oil/lotion blends

including bergamot eo but concerned about the potential phototoxic

issues. I'm also interested in using other citrus oils--mandarin,

sweet orange, lemon, for instance.

Is it true that if I dilute the oils enough I shouldn't have a problem

and if so--what exactly constitutes a safe dilution--ie how many drops

of these eos can I use in each ounce of carrier oil without worrying

about going out in the sun?

I appreciate your advice,

Hi Kimberly,

I highly suggest you get Martin Watt's book Plant Aromatics. I will help

you find just the guidelines you're asking about for many oils.

As for the Bergamot (one of my favorite oils BTW) .. since it is SO

phototoxic - I'd not even use the expressed oil at all for a leave on

skin application - only the Bergaptene Free. Granted, in most cases the

Bergaptene Free Bergamot oil it is somewhat lacking " zing " compared to

the expressed oil, but its better than getting zapped by the sun! ;)

Same goes for Lime BTW - I only use distilled Lime in leave on the skin

products, never the expressed.

Ooops I made a little typo ...

I meant to say: " I highly suggest you get Martin Watt's book Plant

Aromatics. IT will help you find guidelines ... "

All *I* did was ramble! *lol*
