Guest guest
Hi y'all, On another list .. someone asked: > Would any of you have tried both jasmine absolute and the CO2 > select comment on which you prefer? The prices look comparable, > but would you get more bang (scent per drop) for the buck with > the CO2 and less skin sensitization for skin care products? I think you meant to write " irritation " .. not " sensitization " . There is no much more or " less " sensitization .. its like pregnancy .. it is an " is or ain't " situation. And the difference between irritation and sensitization can be compared to the difference between being crapped on by a Pigeon and being attacked by an Angry Mama Eagle. ;-) The three major potential problems that can result from chemical contact with the skin are irritation, sensitization and photo sensitization. There is a 4th but its not one we need to dwell on .. that's toxicity. Irritation is generally mild and it generally goes away when the irritant is removed. Photo sensitization is painful and can leave scars .. certain EO, example Bergamot .. commonly cause this condition when the skin is exposed to direct or indirect sunlight. The condition is serious and as I said, can leave scars .. but it will go away in time. Sensitization is a different animal. Once we become sensitized to a chemical or combination of chemicals .. odds are great that the condition will last for our entire lives .. and our immune systems will react violently when we again become exposed to that chemical(s). Jasmine Absolutes (J. grandiflorum & J. sambac) have been extensively tested on humans and true it is that most any oil can cause problems in hypersensitive folks .. but the incidence of problems using these two products are extremely low .. the exact details for these oils and many others can be found in Martin Watt's " Plant Aromatics " .. at this URL http://www.av-at.com/plantaromaticsavnp.html Sorry if this took some folks to the School House .. but when there are 1,000 + members on any News Group there will be varying degrees of knowledge so lemme just say this post is to the one or two folks who might be new and not have this knowledge. ;-) And three more are coming because I think the subject of sensitization is serious enough to warrant a lot of emphasis. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
