Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Did anyone else watch the two hour 20/20 segment on Privilege in America? I missed the first hour but the second hour with the segment on Judge Keith Dean from Waco Texas was appalling. The segment was about how someone with money can get away with murder and someone without privilege will be handed a severe sentence, life in prison to be exact, for committing a lesser crime by the same judge. A local reporter uncovered the injustice and got it put on 20/20. The poor mans name is Tyrone Brown and he got life in prison for smoking a joint. All because he could not afford a lawyer. Horrible. The other man before Judge Dean commited murder and only got probation. But he could afford a good attorney. So sad. Liz

[Dave:] At the time I moved to Texas in 1978, life was the max for pot. I knew a man who did six years for a roach in his ashtray. Of course, he wasn’t white. -- Version: 7.1.409 / Virus Database: 268.13.27/517 - Release 11/3/2006 -- Version: 7.1.409 / Virus Database: 268.13.27/517 - Release 11/3/2006
Guest guest
Out of curiosity, I looked up the current TX penalties and it appears that someone got logical and they aren't what they used to be (6 yrs for a roach) .. But now THIS is just the craziest darn thing: http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view= & Group_ID=4566 " In twenty US states (including TX), those who possess cannabis or other illegal drugs are legally required to purchase and affix state-issued stamps onto his or her contraband. The total cost of the tax is generally determined by the quantity of contraband possessed. Unlike typical criminal statutes prohibiting the possession and sale of controlled substances, drug tax stamp laws primarily assess financial penalties on the defendant for noncompliance. On occasion, criminal sanctions may also be imposed. " Is this the ultimate in retarded gov't fodder for stand up comedy or what?!? *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com > > > On Behalf Of David Lambert > Saturday, November 04, 2006 12:12 PM > > RE: OT: 20/20 segment > > > Life in prison for smoking a joint? > What is this insanity? > > [Dave:] At the time I moved to Texas in 1978, life was the > max for pot. Guest guest
bottom line, the more money you have to pay the judges(er, er I mean contribute to their campaign) the less sentence you get, My cousins son us under 21 and has 4 DUI's you think he's done any jail time~ oh yeah, I forgot to mention, they won't put him on probation because he's not a good candidate for probation, he won't report and he refuses to take drug/alch test. So ......he also has around 5-6 driving under susp license. He hasn't had a license since he turned 15, he had them 2 weeks and the judge took them away, he's 20 now and still has no license~ has wrecked, totaled 3-4 brand new 40,000 pu trucks~ what ever~ he won't go to jail till his moma's money runs out~ sindy - OT: 20/20 segment Life in prison for smoking a joint? What makes me so mad is that the man that actually murdered someone, shot a male prostitute ( A disposable person I guess) in the back, in his yard , after they got into a scuffle about payment, only got ten years probation for the murder then violated his probation by getting caught with a large amount of cocaine in his possession. He got off because he has friends in the government. Maybe someone will start a website that brings these unfair judgements to light. These people need to be exposed. I hope the reporter that uncovered the story will. I am so sick of these judges getting paid off. The legal system is a joke in this country. Thanks for listening to me rant, Liz >
Guest guest
Saw the entire show. Didn't surprise me a bit. Sounds just like the mickey mouse court system we have in our town. You're guilty until proven innocent and your charge depends on the size of your bank account/family name Paula .......... in Michigan I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away > > > > Hi Everyone, > > Did anyone else watch the two hour 20/20 segment on Privilege in > > America? .
