Guest guest
>Can I use essential oils everday in homemade lotions, cleaners Yes, but provided you use the correct volume of essential oils and the safe oils. To do that you must get proper safety data and not rely on picking up snippets off the internet. >Does sensitization to oils occur only through skin contact or >through inhalation as well. It can happen via inhalation, but very few cases are recorded. Those that have become sensitised via inhalation have invariably done stupid things like having several diffusers going all day in badly ventilated rooms. >I have read on many of the " green " sites that certain chemicals in >cleaners, fabric softeners, etc. are dangers, i.e. linalool, >limonene, benzyl acetate. It all depends on volumes used. Most larger commercial producers test safety very carefully because they do not want to be sued. There is an unbelievable amount of scientific junk on the chemicals mentioned, and here in Europe the EEC advisory committee are a bunch of know nothing blockheads on the subject! The chemicals mentioned tend to be skin sensitisers as they age and oxidise. Therefore, if fresh oils are used, or the oils have effective antioxidants, then there should be no problems. Since most commercial cosmetic products do have effective anti oxidants then there should no be a problem. See the article on my site over aged lavender. Re synthetic versus natural see my last answer. Also, if the chemical is natural or synthetic may make no difference to its senstising potential. Lastly, if you need more basic information there is a free file you can download on my website in return for you supplying the necessary information.
