Guest guest
Hi Dave, > Thankee, Butch! I know a lot of people appreciated your post, > whether they say so or keep quiet like I almost did. Welcome you are for sure. And right you are for sure that some folks will bite their tongues and keep quiet in order to avoid having to go to war with others who consider themselves as being pacifists. If one has not had their head in the sand these past years, they will know that its the pacifists that are the most vocal .. and warlike. ;-) For some, the tradition of commenting on Veterans Day is similar to Merry Christmas and Thanksgiving greetings, etc., .. especially on the Aromatherapy Lists because there will always be some folks who follow alternative/complementary modalities who are either truly liberal thinkers (or maybe are seeking self) .. and others who wish to portray themselves as being such so as to fit in with what they see as being the In Crowd. Comments that might be considered as being Patriotic, or (Gawd Forbid .. Uggh) Christian, (i.e., Thanksgiving & Christmas) is, unfortunately, sorta not Politically Correct today. Witches & Warlocks .. Buddhists & Shintos and whatever else one wants to come up with .. as long as it appears to be a minority culture/religion, i.e., not traditionally WASP .. is perfectly all right .. or maybe more accurately, it is enlightened thinking. ;-) > Only three of us at work are vets, but we knocked fists and swapped a > few stories. (Snipped a bunch) Good for you three .. and saluting you I am. :-p (Snipped a bit here) > Brooke Army Medical Center at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio. > That's where I spent a couple years. A good hospital for sure .. I've visited folks there a few times. (Snipped a bit) > I was 20. I'm glad I wasn't actually in combat. There are things I'll > never forget that have a lot to do with how I feel about war today. I > wasn't a very good soldier, although I was a damn good corpsman. No, I > wouldn't trade that time. And when the three of us high-fived today, we all > knew that no matter which war and no matter how any of us might feel about > what we went through, we shared something special with a special family of > men and women of all ages. My very best wishes to each of you, wherever you > are. Being a good corpsman .. clerk .. mechanic .. or whatever combat support or combat service support position one finds oneself in is as important as being a good grunt or combat pilot. Its the support troops that keep the mission going with beans, bullets and blood .. so you have every right to be proud. I hear you on the sharing .. that spirit of kinship or brotherhood. I ran into that in Washington, D.C., this past July, while we were doing the War Memorials. At the WW II Memorial, I had the honor of running into two old fellers .. one a WW II Vet (not many of those folks left) and the other was a Korean War Vet .. we got along just great from the git go .. I took a photograph with them and its now a very important part of my photo collection. It is the very last photo in the section titled " Butch's Wanderings " .. on the list photo archive at this URL http://health.ph./photos Its on the 2d page of that series .. and at the bottom right hand corner of each page there is a block we can click .. labeled " Next. " > Dave Again .. a salute to you podner .. and to all those who have served .. whether in uniform .. or while waiting for their loved ones. Y'all have a good one .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch
