Guest guest
Okay folks. I'm getting a pissy attitude myself. Scratch that. I ALWAYS have a pissy attitude. Why Chris asked me to be a moderator with my mouth and piss poor attitude is beyond me... prolly had been doing a bit a drinking. ;-) But... I am a moderator and I'm here to tell you that some of the notes coming lately are really pissy. One small step away from being downright nasty. I don't like it. This is a list for everyone from those just getting their toes wet, to folk who have been doing this for donkeys years. The knowledge gap is wide and varied. This is supposed to be a nice list. No flashing nasty attitudes (except mine and I'll get my kiester fired if I'm too nasty), just a general sharing of information and knowledge if one is so inclined. If you disagree with someone, feel free, just do it kindly. Without sarcasm, biting comments and implications that you are smarter than everyone else on the list. Cuz you aint. Now. If you think this note is aimed at YOU, then maybe it is. Next time I see some of what's been going on lately, you get a personal note from me and this will seem like it's from little miss Nice-nice Marshmellow girl in comparison. Unless Chris, who's too nice for her own good, comes in slaps me down and sends me to my room! ;-) K -- Cheers! Guest guest
I wanted to reply to this email, being a new member to this group, I am left with the impression that I have made a mistake to join. I come to this thought because I joined to learn more about using oils and hydrosols. I am a soap maker and also make lotions and other body care products. I am one that is always interested in learning new things. This year I bought a distiller so I can make my own EO's and hydrosols ect. So far I see post after post with the same information with a few added- I agree or things like that. Did I make a bad choice? where is the learning? open for replies Michael - Woobey Queen Oils_herbs_etc Monday, November 20, 2006 5:50 PM Pissy notes/from a moderator Okay folks. But you do have to realize that some groups adopt a " comfortable feeling " amongst their members and feel free to add just a line or two of wisdom or comment to a post. Sometimes that's all that is needed for learning purposes. I have learned a lot from this group, even though I'm not a very active member. If there's topics that don't interest me, I don't read them. But stick around.. You'll learn a lot. I promise! )) Michelle
Guest guest
Michael, Some times when you know a lot like you do it's kind of hard to get new information in a short amount of time. I say give it time. I'm old hat at some things on this list too and I have little patience, however, there is new information. If you're looking for something that hasn't been regurgitated over and over Start asking questions. I have a tendency to do many things at one time so I'm rarely inclined to ask questions, but when it gets down to it if there's something you're looking for and it isn't in the archives, then you should feel free to ask. Right now it's in a lull, however there will be times of great information exchange. Guest guest
.. If there's topics that don't interest me, I don't read them. But stick around.. You'll learn a lot. I promise! )) Michelle [Dave:] Ditto! I’ve also learned a lot here. Michael, I’m also a soapmaker, and I came here for pretty much the same reasons you did. I also find this is a list where I can skip over threads or posts that don’t interest me or address areas I’m interested in. Even so, I’ve been able to learn a lot from some very educated folks on this list, and I also enjoy the humor and anecdotal stuff that finds its way here. -- Version: 7.1.409 / Virus Database: 268.14.11/542 - Release 11/20/2006 -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. I have gone back through the messages just searching through topics of interest and have found so much info on eo's, soaps and lotions I never read anywhere else posted by people who have way more experience than I. I have found this group extremely helpful. Susan> >

Did I make a bad choice? where is the learning? =========I belonged to this group several years ago when my time and interest in oils and herbs was a serious endeavor for me. What I learned, right from the get-go, was that I didn't know squat and that working with herbs and oils without a solid background could be dangerous. So, for that alone, I'm grateful. I left the group for a few years while watching my oldest granddaughter -- I just couldn't keep up and my husband became very sensitive to the smell of the oils and I just dropped out of the whole thing for awhile. I'm back now and again, remembering how very little I really know, despite the amount of time I've invested in learning. The second thing that stands out in my mind is that before I belonged to several lists -- but this is the only one that I've rejoined after my hiatus. That should speak for itself. However, if you really like a stricter environment, I'll comment on the elephant in the living room -- this group may not be it -- they are definitely comfortable with one another and enjoy the camaraderie that seems to flow from that familiarity. I enjoy it, but I know it isn't for everybody. Perhaps you might want to ask a few questions or initiate a conversation about something you're interested in just to see how it goes? Susan H. Guest guest
Hi Michael, Whether it was a mistake to join is up to you *S* But I think it is a fantastic group. Very opinionated people with a lot of knowledge & there can be some spirited topics but that is what makes this group great. I have learned so much from the members, Butch, Chris (listowner), & Watts (alphabetical order *S*) & many others too numerous to mention. You can't find better quality ingredients/products that are offered. If you want to know something all you have to do is ask & you will get a lot of answers & perspectives. And if you want to rehash anything that has been mentioned in the past they will patiently explain it again (ask me how I know that one - I pop in frequently to ask a question & then pop back out again). So please, stick around, join in, lurk & ask away. Welcome & enjoy some great company.
