Guest guest
I seem to go through this every year - what shall I do with my 2 story sugar cane when I whack it down for winter? Anya from ANPG gave some great ideas a couple years back when she suggested making little skewers for spearing meat and veggies to be BBQ'd with - or making sweet drink stir sticks with it. I know a special juicer (which I do not have) is needed to get the juice from the cane - so I won't be doing that .. what else can I do with these huge blades of grass? *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com <http://www.alittleolfactory.com/>

Guest guest
So when I googled a little more for homemade sugar syrup, I think I found that Chris is fooling us. I found this old picture of her with short hair and a moustache making the stuff: http://www.kamat.com/kalranga/food/31.htm Anya McCoy of Natural Perfume http://anyasgarden.com Artisan Natural Perfumers Guild http://artisannaturalperfumers.org Natural Perfumers Chat Group
Guest guest
YOU are one warped woman *lol* I know how silly the irony of a person who lives in Sugar Land (called that for a reason - it started out as a sugar plantation in the 1800's and is home to the headquarters of the Imperial Sugar company) not knowing what to do with the sugar growing in the garden *lol* I wonder if I can make paper from the fiber after I boil the heck out of it to make syrup .... *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com So when I googled a little more for homemade sugar syrup, I think I found that Chris is fooling us. Guest guest
Anya, They don't make sugar in Sugar Land any more. They closed their plant several years ago to save money, much to my chagrin. Joy
Guest guest
Have you got a lot of cane? Because if you , like me have only a few bushes , you can peal them and suck the juice ( it is what I do) the juice is full of vitamins and mineral salts, differently from white refined sugar, you can make the green/brown juice chilled with lemon hmmmm You can make molasses boiling and reducing Rapadura (raw sugar) in bars like bricks if oyou keep boiling. You can put inside shampoo and soap formulas too. It gives consistency to the soap foam and make your hair shine. You can distil it and make cachaça (which is an unforgetable experience ...) re distil it and make good alcohol. and I don't know any more... Guest guest
> I seem to go through this every year - what shall I do with my 2 story sugar cane when I whack it down for winter?< I thought of you at dinner! Anyone in the Hartford CT area probably has heard of Trumbell Kitchen. My DH and I went there for dinner tonight to celebrate a new job he has accepted this week. They won " Best Mojito " 5 years running...they serve it with a stick of sugar cane as a stirrer! YUMMY!! Sue Apito
