Guest guest
Hi, on Wed my doctor gave me a sample of some medication he wanted me to try. About 15 minues after taking it my lips started to swell and itch and I broke out in a rash. I want to the EO and was put on an IV and given some meds through the IV. I was sent home and told to take benedryl and given a prescription for pregnizone. My lips swellded up twice yesterday but went down. Now I have a rash from head to toe and it is getting redder and hotter by the minute. I am taking 100mg of Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy in liqui-gel every 4 -5 hours and pregnizone at night. I called my doctor and left a message with the nurse telling her my symptoms and that the meds weren't helping. I am hoping the doctor will call in a prescription for something stronger than what I am taking. If not I have a 2 pm appointment to see him. Can you think of anything I can do to get rid of this rash or at least not get any worse? Thanks for any suggestions you have. Guest guest
Jo Ann, DO not wait for your doc to call you. You have to go to the ER NOW! You are having a systemic reaction and it could lead to permanent organ damage! My longest friend went through this last year!!! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com On Behalf Of Jo Ann Friday, December 15, 2006 9:49 AM Help, I am having an allergic reaction to meds. Guest guest
JoAnn, what is the name of the medication you took? Sandi BlackKat Herbs http://www.blackkatherbs.com >
Guest guest
Hi Sandi, the medication is Lodrane 24 hour. My doctor said an allergic reaction to this drug is very unusual. I reminded him that my mother died last Dec from a rare allergic reaction to a new colesterol medication that destroyed her liver. He gave me a cortizone shot and drew some blood for testing including lookin at my ace levels (I am allergic to ace inhibitors.) and ordered a chest Xray. Since lodrane i is an antihistamine he is not sure how effective the bendryl will be hence the cortizone shot. The doctor was amazed that I was awake with taking 100 mg of Benedryl every 4 hours. I said the discomfort did a good job of keeping me awake. He said to avoid getting hot because that would make the rash and swelling worse. Thanks to everyone for their advice. Guest guest
Aromatherapy, herbs, natural living, etcJoanne, I very well remember how I felt this summer I was briefly on antidepressants while undergoing radiation. I had a melt down of depression. Once I got use to the treatment i went off. However, in the beginning of the treatment, I went on a couple that were safe for breastfeeding and I too got a rash and was miserable. I then changed script. Prednisone for a week did very little to ease my discomfort. It was pretty horrible for about 3 weeks or more. Looked liek it was still appearing all over... I did chickweed salve, blue chamomile shea cream (I make both of those) I used aveeno cream too and alternated between them all. Get well soon! Guest guest
Hi Kristena, I don't have any of the salves that you mentioned but I tried some shea butter/emu cream with lavender EO and it seemed to make it hotter. I just got out of a luke warm shower and that felt good but I am heating up again, especially the lips and the face. I am surprised that the reaction is lasting so long, I only took one pill Wed. night. I went ahead and had the chest x ray the doctor ordered today and hopefully nothing shows up on it or the blood tests. I don't have much in the way of herbs, just some chamomile tea but I have several oils I use to make soaps with, jojoba, olive, emu, hazelnut, avocado, and coconut. Would any of them help to take away some of the heat? Thanks for all of your help. Jo Ann Nourse
