Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I can tell you about funnel chest, as my son has one. First of all, when he was born it was very pronounced, my husband was mortified, and insisted that the doctor check it out and see what could be done. Our wonderful family doctor said that they can do plastic surgery and wire an implant to the sternum to 'fill out the hole'. BUT, he told my ex that he would only do it when it was a problem for my son. What we did was make light of it, and he grew up telling his friends that he had a 'pirates chest' ( sunken)........if anyone asked. But the most important thing I want you to know, is that as he grew, it was not as obvious, he is now 25 and it is noticeable, but not anywhere near as bad as when he was a small child. My father and his brother both have it to some degree, but my uncle did body building and his is a lot less noticeable than Dad's. Regards Jeanine 10. funnel chest and stitches. Amazing how wicked a rose bush can be eh?! Anyone know much about " funnel chest " ? My little one has it. It has lately started to bother him. Oh the diagnosis is mine, he's going in for the official diagnosis on Jan 8, but I know a concave chest when I see one. I know that it might require surgery to correct it. Has anyone got any info on this, how difficult the surgery is etc.? K -- Cheers! Guest guest
Thanks Jeanine! I'm going to have it checked out just to make sure it isn't causing any problems and then go from there. Apparently these things can be mild to severe, severe requiring surgery, mild needing surgery if only it's causing psych probbies. Specially in the teen years. Thanks again.
