I put it on the sides of my pillow. I sleep on my side with my head bent so I put a few drops where I will be able to inhale it. I have also put several drops of EO with water and spritzed it on my bed.

Guest guest
I know a medical doctor who is an aromatherapist and he says to put it on the sole of your foot. I sometimes put it on my temples, I use it neat, but do a test on the inside of your arm near the elbow first, just a dot to see if you get a reaction, if you do put a little carrier oil on it and use a carrier oil with it instead of neat. Guest guest
Lavender worked great for me, for a while, then it just sort of stopped working -- any ideas why? I'm an insomniac from way back and I've tried everything, with the same result -- stuff works for a while. Melatonin works well for me now. When it begins to lose its affect, I stop taking it for a few weeks and when I start up again, it works great. Guest guest
Two possible reasons. First, if you use an oil a lot, sometimes you need a break from it. Second, depending upon the underlying issue the causing the sleeplessness, maybe lavender was no longer the proper response. For instance, if originally you weren't sleeping due to stress, lavender may have calmed the stress, but if later you're not sleeping because your mind is too active (not quite the same thing as stress) maybe you need another oil. Guest guest
Beth, Do you have any suggestions as to what oils to use for the wondering minds at night? I'm not an expert so take this with a grain of salt but what worked for me was rosemary essential oil. I tend to have a VERY over-active mind and it interferred with my sleep for years. A friend who is a very skilled herbalist and knowledgeable about oils (but won't teach, darn it) suggested rosemary and it worked like a charm for me. Later I read that rosemary was a stimulant so I asked her why a stimulant would help me get to sleep. She said it's less a stimulant that a system balancer (she used a different term but I can't remember what it is) so that if you're mind is over-active, it's calming and that if you're sluggish, it perks you up. All I know is that it works like a charm for me and has helped friends of mine as well. Of course, rosemary oil has various precautions associated with it, especially for those with seizure conditions and epilepsy, so check them out before using them. That said, I was treated for epilepsy from ages 2 to around 21, started using rosemary essential oil around age 36 and have never had a problem but your mileage may vary. I think there's also a Bach Flower Remedy for over-active minds but I don't remember which it is. Beth -- " Don't be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. Guest guest
Beth, i find this to be very interesting. What is the application of the rosemary eo? Drink a tea or spriz the pillows?? I really enjoy rosemary in my morning bath. I take a clean q-tip and dip it in my eo and just toss it in the tub with me. It seems to be just what I need to motivate to haul my sorry fanny to work in the morning.
