Guest guest
Been hearing on the news about the citrus crop losses in California due to the freezing temperatures. The news stories say the price of citrus will start going up now. Does anyone know how this might effect the essential oils such as orange and lemon? I would think some of that crop would be used in making the oils. I'm thinking about buying a couple extra bottles now in case the prices sky-rocket. Debbie [Dave:] My guess is that if there’s an effect, it will be secondary. In our little inland valley in San Diego County, we’ve been hit pretty hard. Usually the avocado groves don’t show freeze damage for a week, but there’s already fruit on the ground. Ditto the citrus. My patio has taken the freeze pretty well, considering the tropical plants I have out there. I fear my banana tree is toast, but it might come back. My orchids have been blossoming since last summer, but these cold nights got ‘em. Otherwise, I think everything will make it. Plenty of frostbite on the tips, though. -- Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.16.13/632 - Release 1/16/2007 4:36 PM -- Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.16.13/632 - Release 1/16/2007 4:36 PM

Keep in mind that if you do stock up on citrus oils, you may also want to take measures to prevent them from oxidizing on you (they have shorter shelf lives than many other oils) .. such as adding vitamin E, or topping off your bottles with a nitrogen gas blanket .... *Smile* Chris (list mom - in freezing Houston metro) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
