Guest guest
The EU Commission is planning to simplify the Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EEC - which has been amended approx 50 times to date - see http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/cosmetics/html/cosm_simpl_dir_en.htm. This is " to simplify the legal framework for economic activities in the EU. " More explicitly an internal policy document states: " If European companies are to continue to play the leading role in this sector, a more modern and efficient regulatory framework is required. Therefore, the Commission seeks the views of stakeholders, like the industry, consumer organisations and the academic world, on the following aspects: - How can administrative costs be reduced? - How can aspects of self-assessment and responsibility of the manufacturer be strengthened? - How can the high level of safety in cosmetics be maintained without unnecessary red tape? " I think the costs/red tape aspects was what Cropwatch was getting at in the 'Boycott the 40th IFRA Amendment' pdf, when it said in its opening statement, that Europe was a hostile environment for the aroma trade - to which Mr Vey of IFRA took exception. There is a Public Consultation document about the subject on the 'Net somewhere - but here we go again, the pace of regulatory change is impossible to keep up with - submissions must be in by 16.03.07. This is against a background of breathtaking changes in many other cosmetic regulation areas. Democracy? Of course not. Hyperbureaucracy? Alive and well in Brussels. www.cropwatch.org --- End forwarded message ---
