Guest guest
Just a thought, being many years since I owned a cat. Would a sprinkling of catnip in the litter tray help bring kitty back to the tray? LOL Leslie - Susan Harkins Wednesday, January 31, 2007 6:42 AM [sPAM] RE: Help! Cat won't use litter box. One of our females started this after we had her spayed. One theory is that the cat associates the litter with pain, after surgery, and so refuses to use the box, since urinating hurts after the surgery. I'm skeptical on that one, but since our cat used the box before the surgery, anything's possible. There is a spray the vet can give you (expensive), but it didn't work with our cat. Nothing ever worked. My son has a female that does the same thing. He has gone the same route -- vet visits, sprays, different litter, different box, plenty of boxes, it never made a bit of difference. I have no explanation and no help, other than to let you know that it probably isn't anything you're doing wrong -- it's the cat! Susan H. Does anyone have any suggestions. We have 3 litter boxes, one on the second floor and two on the first floor. Guest guest
I came across an interesting one on an inventors show that deals with the problem of cats liking it to be clean (doggies too) and someone had made a litter tray that has a lid on it. When the business is done the pet or yourself can then use the flush button (and it was shown that the animals can easily be trained to do this especially when they realise it gives them a clean toilet). Once the deed is done and the button pushed the litter is sifted and strained and then washed, sterilised and sanitized leaving perfectly clean litter tray. The other benefit of this is that no longer do you have to go and get litter every few days as you can re-use the old litter stuff over and over again. perhaps a google on automatic litter tray washing or somesuch will turn up the links. Come to find out she insisted on her litter box being immaculately clean at all times - whew.... so, I purchased a super clumping cat litter made in Canada and I can easily keep the litter clean at least every day. What we don't do for our pets......... Now, this means, of course, that you have had her checked at the vets to eliminate the fact that there's nothing wrong with her physically.. Good Luck, it can certainly be frustrating..... Evie M.
