Natural Makeup?

So.....I've been making my own soaps, lotions, toners, etc for some

time now. I don't have my own business - yet! - I'm still giving them

away to friends and family. Anyway. I get up in the morning, cleanse,

scrub, tone ... all my own making. Then I pull out the makeup. I've

been using Bare Escentials, thinking they were the most natural out

there. Hoping, actually. I know there is also one called Bare

Minerals, but their colors looked " off " to me. Not so natural. Any

opinions on what I'm using ... or other products I could consider?

Thanks!!!

There are dozens, possibly even hundreds, of mineral makeup companies out there

now, most of them small, cottage-industry types. I have at least five different

providers I purchase from, all of them women, all of them homecrafters, and I am

very happy with their products and service.

My advice is to join Mineral Makeup Mania, a Delphi forum, where you can get the

lowdown on every possible vendor and type of natural cosmetics, as well as tips

on how to use the products (application can be very different than with

conventional types of MU), and find the best deals, etc.

Watch out for commercial cosmetics giants jumping on the MMU bandwagon. Some of

them market their formulas as " natural, mineral makeup " but they still contain

talc and other ingredients you don't want on your skin or near your eyes and

nose.

Best of luck,

Aromaleigh!! I love their glissade foundation. It seems to do very well on my

53 year old skin...reasonable prices and no need for any " Mineral Veil " to put

over it. Also, it does not have that shiny appearance which is not to my

liking. Their website is www.aromaleigh.com I don't have any financial

interest in the company...just love their products.

I second that, but I love the voile! Do be careful, though, b/c not all

of their makeup is natural -- the lipstick has parabens!

There is also a makeup forum for mineral makeup here:

On their start page is a HUGE list of natural makeup companies!

Hope this helps :)

If you have any questions let me know I’ve tried just about everything.

I took a look at this product's website ... please note they use

parabens in their makeup. Parabens are a known carcinogen which causes

breast cancer.

We will soon be offering a mineral makeup which does not contain

parabens.

When I posted that I used Aromaleigh's Voile foundation, I warned people

that some of their makeup does have parabens, like their lipstick. But

their mineral foundation and blush which I use and recommended does not,

so I don't want people to be mislead about the mineral makeup, which is

indeed paraben free and lovely!

Parabens are NOT a known cause of cancer. This is all based on a long

discredited piece of research. That has been posted on this group

before, but unfortunately the Internet is still full of out of date

junk articles.

Martin,

would you suggest then that Parabens are safe for use in cosmetics?

what about other types of preservatives widely used? So many companies

are now taking paraben based preservatives out of their products.

There is currently not a shed of sound evidence that parabens are

dangerous if used properly. I would rather use a safe synthetic

preservative that will prevent bacterial growth, rather than some of

the natural ones which are hyped, untested, dangerous or ineffective.

Companies that are withdrawing it are simply hopping onto a marketing

scam to fool the public based on this discredited research.

Also, this has been posted here before, try searching the archives.
