For Laundry I use about 2 kilos of soap scraps, 375 grms of Washing soda and the same of bicarbonate of soda plus about 10-20 grms of caustic soda (this is because my soaps are 5% superfat and I need a balance. With each load I add vinegar into the 'conditioning cycle'. I don't add fragrance. I make this blend up in a 20 litre drum and add as much water as I want. I use about a cup or less per full load. For dishwashing I just put a DOS or other bar of soap in a glass jar and let the water run over it until I have the amount of soap solution I want. Easy enough. In a similar vein, I use brown vinegar to cleanse my machine every few months, the amount of scum and stuff it removes is incredible. Just 1/2 cup into the smalles size load you can run with cold water and go through full cycle. For washing I too use the washing soda crystal to which I add several drops of T-Tree oil which acts as an antibacterial working very well. I also use a liquid detergent made by Down to Earth (sorry about the advertisment) which is phosphate free and not tested on animals at all. I add a few drops of eucalyptus to this and have a wonderful cleanser with the added bonus of the softeing effects of the eucy as well as the antibacterial properties. This uses about 1/2 cup per load and I also use it on my floors, just a few drops, as a toilet cleaner and as a window cleaner (about 3 drops to 5lt water is enough). I love using good old fashioned hard soap (it is yellow usually) for stubbirn stains just giving a rub or as you say use the soap holder to make a froth for dishwashing and clothes as well. a few drops of blue colour is wonderful to add brightness to whites, add it to the water before the clothes though unless you want a few blue stains. LOL Lelsie I dont have enough soap scaps to ever collect that much. Regards Merinda
