Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm normally a " lurker " and just enjoy all this wonderful information, but I've decided to come out of the closet and ask for direction. The other day I was at a " natural " foods store. They have three large greenhouses and advertise that all vegetables are grown on the premises. The store was also filled with grains, dried beans, herbs, teas, etc. I came across a large bag of dried herbs entitled " Herb Tea Blend " Yummy !!!!!! Loving herb teas and wanting to purchase this item, I picked the bag up along with a sheet of paper explaining what herbs were in it and how to use it. Ingredients consisted of: Comfrey, Peppermint, Mugwort, Chapparal, Red Clover, Gotu Kola, and Motherwort. Said to drink a quart of this tea blend a day for 14 days then reduce intake. Recommended for cancer, diabetes, arthritis and whenever a blood purifier and immune builder is desired. Hmmm..... I'm not an herbalist, but I can read. I thought comfrey was for external use only - I thought mugwort was toxic - I checked on chapparal and the write up stated that it could possibly cause liver or kidney problems. Opinions please..... Guest guest
Commission E (Germany ) recommend that Comfrey is only used external. Mugwort has been used in urope for thousands of years however it is only rarely used today as a bitter aromatic to stimulate for loss of appetite. In therapeutic doses ( 1 teaspoon ) it is not likely to cause side effects unless you are pregnant. However since the calimed indications has not been adequately substantiated, the German Commission E did not support its therapeutic use.
