Soap history 101 - kind of a fun link

Knowing how into soap you all are, I thought you might

have fun with this link which is a brief history of

soap. Seems to be mostly for the western world as I

don't see anything, about, say Japan and we know what

a long history they have of bathing (but frankly I do

not know anything about history of soap in their

culture.)

[Dave:] That’s one of the better histories of soap that I’ve seen. It’s a

subject that I have also written about and researched. It seems that the

Celts were well familiar with soap, as were many ancient peoples. They used

it as a hair gel in order to make themselves appear more fearsome in battle.

Their way of fighting was hoardes of naked warriors, smeared with blue

pigment, with their hair standing straight up. A lot of enemies apparently

found the whole thing alarming enough to simply go home again.
