Guest guest
Hi! I've been following the discussion regarding listing of EO's on labels of the various products you make/sell. I feel the same quandry that you guys do. On the one hand, (1) I seek out the listing of ingredients of everything I consider purchasing; on the other hand (2) I have one special formula that want to protect. Up until recently it wasn't a problem for I simply made my bath salts as presents for family and friends and the response has always been more than favorable. But now I am slowly working towards that small venture into business, locally, cheaply -- but hoping it'll grow (I need to find a way to replenish my paltry nest egg, since I've spent thousands on the care of my elderly mother). So, considering my " special " scent, and also recognizing one's certain right to know " what's in that stuff? " , I've considered a compromise and I thought I'd " put it out there " for you guys to discuss: My initial " line " is consisting of five scrubs. On the obligatory disclaimer (products contain oil ... don't slip) I'll list all the EO's and such that are in the all the scrubs on one label (not indicating which EO is in which scrub)and to please consider what one might be allergic to. My foray into this is going to be tinier that baby steps. There's a small farmer's garden here locally that is open on Saturdays. Seems like a good market for a beginner. Any way -- opening discussion for the " labelling " dilemma! Dede

A good " nose " can smell a blend and tell you what the notes are. In reality, it would be highly doubtful that anyone would try to copy your secret blend. If it were a large company, they could do it easily. Just take the product to a lab and see what's in it. If it is a small crafter, what are the chances that they are going to take the time and expense to try to copy your blend? Slim to none. I've been making products for a looong time and have never worried about someone copying a product or scent blend. A good chemist can figure it out from the label, but if they are that skilled, they don't need to steal recipes. I've taught many classes, and I have many students that return to buy my products, even though I've taught them how to make it. They'd rather spend $20 and get the finished product from me than buy all the ingredients, and spend the time formulating. Joanne
