Guest guest
Hey Kathleen, > And how are Tanya and the Great One? Doing great .. thanks. Tanya's mother came back with us for 2 months because she can't handle being away from Alexander the Great. ;-) She came the day after he was born and stayed two months .. then she was with him 2.5 months in Russia .. and she will be here 2 months now ... so all in all she will have been with him for around half his life. Tanya has mixed emotions about moving to the USA but she is ready to leave Turkey .. if she had her choice .. which she readily accepts that she doesn't .. ;-) .. we would live in Russia. Most of the Russians I met have a bit of apprehension about living in the USA .. could be because a lot of the films shown on Russian TV are dubbed American films .. violent films. We watch Russian news here in Turkey and the news about America is certainly chosen to put us in a less than favorable light .. far more polarized than CNN or Fox. I read news about Russia on the I-Net but often don't see it on Russian TV. For those who might not know it, the Russian media is censored. ;-) > I suppose Alexander is now speaking russian/english/Turkish fluently > and is almost ready for the Marines? :-) K He understands a heck of a lot of English and Russian and absolutely no Turkish because we don't speak it around him. He asks Tanya for things in Russian .. and asks me in English - though its not exactly correct Russian or English ;-). He knows he is generally the Boss .. and that's OK cause truth is, he is not spoiled .. its impossible to be upset with his behavior because he accepts NO without a fuss. But he likes to play games us when he knows we don't want him to do something. Like .. don't touch the wall socket .. so he'll walk over to it and start talking in his language .. wants to get our attention ... then when we look he reaches toward it like he is gonna touch it cause he knows we are gonna say NO .. then he belly laughs and runs off. ;-) He is not a spoiled little one but he has a charm that can draw a smile from even the most serious prune face Customs official .. and he knows how to turn that smile on to get most anything he wants from us .. one sweet little rascal he is fer'shur. ;-) Little feller took his first steps alone on Christmas Day .. and by New Year he was prancing around like a danged penguin. I must go to America to get him the educational toys he needs .. he mastered the different size rings on the stick and a few other kinds of toys 2 months ago and there is not a great selection of educational toys here in Turkey. He has a little soccer ball that he loves .. he runs all over the house and keeps the danged thing under total control with his feet. I show him something one time and he is ready to try it himself the second time .. which is good in one way but I gotta be careful because he tries to do everything he sees me do. ;-) His first birthday party comes up in March and looking forward to it we are .. especially him tearing through some kind of healthy cake we'll have one of the bakeries prepare. ;-) I'll post some photos of Russia (and Tanya and Alexander) to the list in a day or two .. got some good ones with him and his Great Grandma. Not many kids get to meet their GGM. Grandpa taught him to love slides and swings and merry-go-rounds in Russia .. and there are none of those near us now so I'm sure he misses them. The layout of Russian housing projects is superior .. easy to do when the one person making all the decisions doesn't have to be concerned with city councils and such. Housing is set in quadrangles with a large inner space containing a large playground .. and Russian kids use the playground even when its 20 below zero Celsius .. Alexander has typical Russian clothing that keeps him warm in such weather and he looks like an Eskimo (or an Astronaut) when he's suited up. ;-) As for the Marines .. I doubt if he will ever be a Marine .. if he follows in the steps of his father and grandfather he will join the US Army .. Airborne .. Ranger School .. all that good stuff. ;-) He'll be what he wants to be .. for sure .. but it would not disappoint me if he went to West Point. Y'all have a good one .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch

Good to see you again. Caleb tunes into http://www.sesameworkshop.org/sesamestreet/elmosworld/ and learns with Elmo. He's got lots of other educational games, if you need suggestions, but in the meantime until you get here, try some of the online stuff.
