Guest guest
I'm expanding my product line and have been checking out different ingredients. There are a few that I can't find a lot of info on and was hoping some of you knowledgeable folks could help me out. I want to know how natural these ingredients are, what type of products they might be used in, and any experience anyone has had with them. Here they are: Ascorbyl Palmitate (vitamin c ester)- I know this is great for anti- aging. anybody use it? any advice? Polysorbate 20- This doesn't sound natural but everything I have read makes it sound very safe and at least naturally derived. DMAE- I want to use this in a firming face cream. Natural? Any problems? Advice? EDTA(ethylenediaminetetracetic acid)- Wow! First of all can anybody even say that? I want to use this in conjunction with preservatives to improve the stability of some products but I know very little about it. Guar gum- I can't remember why this is on my list but I'm sure I have it written down in one of my many notebooks. I see it listed in products. I assume it is a good thickener. Anything else? I use xanthan gum as a thickener. Does guar gum compare? Also, I can't remember the rules for this list on supplier info but you can email me personally if needed. Has anybody used essential oils from Essential Wholesale? Are they high quality? Some of them are so much less expensive than what I am currently using. I know wholesale can do that but there is such a BIG difference it makes me cautious. Thank you in advance for any info. You guys rock! You guys rock! > Christine( finally out of lurkdom, now I will never > shut-up) > www.soulkitchencreations.com ************************************************ Hi Christine Hoo boy! Here we go... Polysorbate 20 is derived from lauric acid which, in turn, is derived from vegetable oils, commonly coconut oil. It is generally regarded as safe, and I haven't heard any grousings about it like you hear about parabens and sulfates. It's pretty far down the food chain to be called " natural " , but " naturally derived " is probably fair enough. DMAE, from what I have researched occurs naturally in certain fish, and some websites refer to it as a natural ingredient, but then again they are peddling a product so take that with a grain of salt. Whether the stuff you buy is derived from natural sources or synthesized in a lab is something you'll need to ask the supplier about. I don't know anything about EDTA. AS for gums, I remember from when I was using them for making incense, reading that guar gum and tragacanth gum are more stable than xanthan gum, but don't quote me on that. I have purchased a lot of things from Essential Wholesale and I've always been pleased with the quality and customer service. I've only purchased a few EO's from then - basic stuff like citrus oils. I see no reason to be suspicious because of their prices. But it's always a good idea to get samples, especially of the more expensive ones. Best wishes! -Patty Two good books to get are A Consumer's Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients by Ruth Winter and Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary. ______________________________\ ____ Never Miss an Email Stay connected with Mail on your mobile.
