Guest guest
------- [YGOG] Daylight Savings Time/Are You Ready? The U.S. Congress has advanced the date for the switch to daylight savings time across the country to three weeks earlier. Instead of the first Sunday in April, it will occur this weekend, Sunday, March 11. Many of our computers are preprogrammed for that April change and it may cause some unhappy results if the time/date stamp is not properly set up for the change this weekend. While we are unlikely to see anything approaching the hysteria that the lead-up to Y2K caused--yah, it was mainly hype--they are pointing out that " an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure " once more (gotta love Poor Richard). Industry specialists are advising: " Make sure you have the latest updates for Microsoft Windows and for your computer, PDA and smart phone. And if you have a Macintosh make sure you have the Apple updates. " What difference will an hour make more or less? Consider the recent experience of the U.S. military, flying their latest wizbang stealth planes on a training mission, exhibition, back from Australia. When they crossed the International Dateline, the computers which govern all internal components of the plane including avionics, guidance, and weapons systems suddenly crashed. Bang! nothing. It was all seat of the pants VFR flying until they could reboot the computers. Well, we're not likely to crash and burn into the Pacific Ocean, but even a small computer hiccough can be a nightmare.
