When Do Oils Go Bad?

Told you yesterday that I would provide a lot of info on expected

shelf life of oils, etc., today .. and I will following this post.

But the one or two posts I recall making years and years ago .. I

can't find in the List Archive now .. been looking for hours. But I

will send a number of posts that will contain the answers to your

concerns. You just gotta read the whole post to find the answers and

they are NOT short posts. ;-)

Not in the sense that folks think of " going off " , but obviously they

can become outdated .. though some will improve with age.

Yes .. except for Fractionated Coconut, which has been manipulated to

give it an INDEFINITE shelf life .. and Jojoba, which is not really a

fixed oil .. its a wax and it also has an INDEFINITE shelf life.

The Carrier Oils (Fixed Oils) will definitely smell bad .. but few EO

will smell bad when they are too old for use on the skin. The color

will change on some .. especially the Blue oils. One needs to know

the Production Date of Essential Oils .. its from that point that one

can calculate the APPROXIMATE expected life of the oil .. there is no

fixed time though there is a " window " that we can expect the oil to

remain in good shape .. not much different than the window .. or

expected life span of us human critters. For both Essential Oils and

human critters we can extend or shorten that expected window by proper

of improper care and handling.

Welcome you are .. lots of posts coming now and I have not had time to

review them to see if there have been any changes since I wrote them.

If anyone has particular questions or disagreement .. I will deal with

either as best I can.
